Tom Steyer has now spent more of his own money seeking a non-Presidential elected position than anyone in U.S.history...

Back in 2010, Republican Meg Whitman spent $144 million of her own money in an unsuccessful bid to become the Governor of California. In doing so, she outspent Democrat Jerry Brown by a 5 to 1 margin. Her spending set a record for personal funds used in a non-Presidential U.S. political campaign. That record has now been broken.
