Given that the US rail system can't replace trucks to deliver stuff, there is really no viable alternative if they want to continue selling their product. Any competing trucking companies are facing the same pricing.

I don’t want to stereotype, but I worry the trucker types will waste a lot of time blaming Joe Biden.

and frequently stop at TA, Petro, Love's, Pilot and other truck stops. I used to have a CB radio in my car. Truckers should be Democrats, but for the last 30 years they mostly have been listening to AM Hate radio, and now the multitude of rightwing satellite channels. Every truckstop has Fox "news" on the TV in the lounges.

So now they are just one of the many blocs which the right has fooled into compliance.

All one has to do to fool someone is to pierce their underlying bigotry, claim the ones they hate are the cause of their misery and problems, present a simplistic solution to complex problems that seems logical and workable at the surface, and then stoke patriotism behind it.

Worked in Nazi Germany and the right wing has perfected that.

And your statement is absolutely spot on, correct

The overwhelming majority of truck drivers in this country are very hard right wing.

The propaganda campaign against unions in this country has been very effective, and the fact of the matter is that you don’t have to have a postgraduate degree in order to successfully complete a commercial drivers license exam.

I’ve known for years and I have said before that I am a member of an industry overwhelmingly populated by morons. I make no apologies for making that statement. And I know DU has several truck drivers that frequent this board, and I’m one of the longest lasting. But that doesn’t change the fact that most truck drivers are fucking dumb. It’s that simple. They’re not deep into critical thinking and, as you point out, years of the likes of the Rush Limbaugh’s and the Sean Hannity‘s of the world, being available on radio stations coast-to-coast before the days of satellite radio, have made the campaign against organized labor, even more successful.

Truck drivers will continue to vote against their best interest, as well as entirely too many Americans because we are badly educated as a people.

I’ll be 67 in a few days and I’m frankly glad I don’t have that much longer to live on this planet because conservative political and economic ideology will completely fuck over the middle class if it isn’t brought to heel.

And I didn’t add any diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) which was $4.89.9 cents, so if I had to top off that 20 gallon tank, it would’ve been another hundred bucks.

The Aussies, like the rest of the world, has absolutely no dog in this fucking hunt that Bibi Netanyahu has talked the fucking moron that we have as president into doing this. This is all Netanyahu and Putin. I guarantee you.

And the Aussies, the New Zealanders, Japanese everyone is feeling the effects of something that they have absolutely nothing to fucking do with.

It’s completely ridiculous

I’m guessing around $6.00 per gallon which makes $6.00 X 140 =$840.00

I assume you were hauling something from one place to another. Has the amount you charge for hauling gone up enough to cover your increased costs? Let me guess: Not even close!

I work for a company involved in the entertainment industry, so we are not subject to the same whims as regular commercial cargo is, but the industry is certainly not unaffected by it, and high fuel costs will very likely mean in a downturn in business

Look up the differences in cost between “off-road“ and “Highway diesel“

Off-road fuel, which is used by railroads, farm equipment, construction equipment, etc. is dyed a red color and is taxed differently. And at a much lower rate.

With the big Cummins under the hood

At 70 miles an hour it’s getting around seven

I ran it across the Ohio Turnpike, which has a lot of construction going on and the speed limit is between 50 and 60 and it was getting 8 1/2 at that speed

Bobtailing the tractor will get over 12

but let's say one drives 500 miles per day, and have a load on the return trip, at 7 mpg they're looking at $450/day for fuel. If diesel is up 50% over a year ago, that's a $225/day increase, or say around $4,500/month. Not to mention that perhaps the load levels are lower, don't know about that part.

Thanks for the info!
