RESULTS from Texas: Voters just ousted 3 conservative incumbent school board members tonight

RESULTS from Texas: The school district of Grapevine Colleyville, near Fort Worth, drew national attention after conservatives running on an explicitly Christian message took over the board (archive: www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...).

Voters just ousted 3 conservative incumbents tonight.

I am surprised these book bans didn't evolve into book burnings.

Well, at least they haven't yet......

I wish I could find the story, but it was a Democrat who trounced the Republican incumbent in a school board race because the Republicans had gone so far overboard.

The last straw was the incumbent being caught taking photos near restrooms at the school. (He wanted to prove they weren't properly labeled or some such, but when he was captured in a photo taking these pictures, seeing him lurking around bathrooms sure looked creepy, creepy, creepy.)

Anyway, it sounds like the incumbent was already toast before that last straw because of various disruptive incidents related to implementing some crazy Christian Nationalist bathroom policies. While such policies might sound good to bigots, when it comes to disruption at the schools related to implementation, the extremists often end up voted out.

The Dem that won said that it all boiled down to people REALLY hating disruption at their local school. People who were "appalled" at the idea of trans kids using the restroom of their choice are suddenly not so happy with the new rules when it means little so and so is bullied, someone else is in hysterics, and other completely unnecessary incidents disrupting the school. All the sudden, the idea of trans kids using whatever restroom sounds fine if it brings peace.

It isn't. I know a lot of educators. Educators are good people, they don't deserve the shit that Fox flings at them daily.

If Republicans changed their ways today, I don't think they could save themselves in November.

ETA: Getting real tired of the cycle where cons take office and break everything, competent people get elected as a result and spend all their time fixing the mess the cons created, only for a new set of cons to get elected based on their complaints about how long it’s taking to fix the mess.

Were the voters asleep at the switch when they elected them in the first place? Or did they just not bother with school board elections?

Quentin Wiltz is the new mayor elect! (Pearland is about 15 miles south of Houston, and in the top 30 cities in terms of population in TX).
