When the Orange anus' reign of terror ends, we will fight with all our might to not allow Republicans to get away with trying to distance themselves from Trump.
I can hear them now: " I was never fully on board with Trump and exercised my independence on several occations." And the media will let these statements go unchallenged to allow this false narrative to take hold.
HELL NO: Everyone of them abdicated their power as a co-equal branch of government to allow Trump's multiple examples of his abuse of power. We cannot let them get away with it!

(1,052 posts)...water supply--because Americans have the attention span of fruit flies.
How do we organize politically to hold people to account when voters can't--or won't--even remember the what happened last week--much less last year?
If they did we wouldn't have a President [REDACTED] now.
This is how the Rs slither out of accountability--just like they did last time.
And, unfortunately they know all too well that all they have to do--as evil as it is--is keep Ds from doing anything to make the economy actually work for everyday Americans and presto chango they are back in office regardless of what they did or whom they supported in the past.
I'm not sure how we best tar and feather Rs with the destruction of the MalAdministration, but we do need to try--I am just not sure how effective it will be given the electorate we have.
But I will join in that pact!

(109,064 posts)Trump happened because one network came in and fucking wrecked that actually made America great. That network is Fox News, and they are giddy watching Trump destroy the country day by day.
If we don't put some of these fuckers in prison for life, it's going to keep happening and getting worse. Fox News is the 800 pound gorilla in the room.

(26,330 posts)for at least a decade or more in order to restore democracy.
So we have to pull ourselves together in a strategy for that purpose and convince more people to join us. With a majority in Congress, we could have a list of laws to pass toward goals in a few categories, e.g. protecting voters' rights and dealing with racial redistribution shenanigans. If it requires a Constitutional amendment, so be it.
Other goal categories-- balance the SC with enough justices to cover all federal districts. Establish some ethical rules of conduct for SC justices. Find a way to enforce them. Perhaps with fines or grounds for impeachment.
Establish an investigative group of prosecutors to expose the multiple MAGA crimes. One of the things that Timothy Snyder has pointed out is that accountability is essential to restoring democracy and ending cults. The citizens need to see and experience the rule of just (as in justice) laws as the norm in a democratic society.
So we will need leaders with broad vision, good organizational skills, the ability to choose competent people and delegate responsibilities to them, and a clear focus on the goal of democracy restoration.

(26,330 posts)Without it, democracy in the US will permanently die.
I think that there are Dems who realize that, like Jeffries, AOC, Raskin, Schiff, Ossoff, Warnock, and Newsom. There are also former and current Republicans who realize the need for accountability, like Michael Steel, George Conway, and even Liz Cheney.
Plus a host of attorneys who will be willing to take whatever legal actions are necessary.
I am not willing to give in to defeatism.

This is what we need to do, metaphorically, to those who enabled him. The stench will never go away.

(13,500 posts)look at supreme court expansion and rules for members of the supreme court. This of course means the end of the filibuster and if you have dems that don't want to do either, it will never happen.
And elect those who will aggressively seek indictments on ALL those crimes (and there are a lot) committed by the administration and their backers.
Also elect those who are willing to make changes to the constitution to update it to cover the world today.
I think most people want that but many politicians only want to be re-elected not work for the betterment of the country. Make sure you elect the "right" people; as everyone now knows, elections have consequences.

(4,055 posts)We need to look forward. We need to turn the page. We can't be navel gazing about the past. We need to heal the nation. The future is what we should focus on.
"We would needlessly be diverted from meeting those challenges if we as a people were to remain sharply divided over whether to indict, bring to trial, and punish a former President, who already is condemned to suffer long and deeply in the shame and disgrace brought upon the office he held. Surely, we are not a revengeful people. We have often demonstrated a readiness to feel compassion and to act out of mercy. As a people we have a long record of forgiving even those who have been our countrys most destructive foes.Yet, to forgive is not to forget the lessons of evil in whatever ways evil has operated against us. And certainly the pardon granted the former President will not cause us to forget the evils of Watergate-type offenses or to forget the lessons we have learned that a government which deceives its supporters and treats its opponents as enemies must never, never be tolerated."
- From President Fords statement on pardoning Richard Nixon, 1974
Forgiveness? Oh sure. The problem? The right wingers never forgave us for taking down Nixon, for resisting the war machine, for fighting for Civil Rights, and have been waging war against us ever since, culminating in the current nightmare.

(42,100 posts)... the main evil "partner" that allowed Chump to sneak back into the White House has been the US media. Other than a few exceptions, the US media has been complicit enablers of Chump's ultra-conservative and self-promoting agenda.
They can't pretend they didn't help him win in 2024. It's not like they didn't help carry out his evil plans in 2025 and '26.
