I am very disappointed in all the celebs attending the BEZOS GALA tonight.

AKA the "Met" Gala

That includes celebrities that I admired.

*sigh*

Kudos to Mamdani and Stephen Colbert for NOT going.

Now. let's all eat cake!

It's a fund raiser for the "Museum of Costume Art" ... which doesn't seem to need the money. So it's just the 0.1% people being seen and showing off how little they need their money.

Sad it's not a fund raiser for something actually worthwhile.

It's mostly multiple car washes, fast food restaurants, pizza, and coffee shops. Now we even have 3 autoparts stores. The only chain stores we have are discount stores like Ollie's, TJ Max, and Sierra, and Walmart. Instacart is too expensive. So if I need stuff that isn't sold in a grocery store I am pretty much out of luck. Amazon is one of the few places I can get other stuff.

I'm on a WalMart budget, but WalMart often doesn't carry products that it advertises and their shipping is outrageous.

One time, they claimed that they didn't have a product in stock and would have to order it. So I did. The thing arrived at my house in a shopping bag later that afternoon! Bag wasn't even sealed. It was an opening shopping bag.
And they charged outrageous shipping.
It was a cheap pair of shorts. Athletic Works Women's ButterCore Gym Shorts $8.98. It obviously wasn't shipped. It was picked up from the store and put in a bag and dropped off at my door. I paid $16.21!

I will take Amazon any day over this!

Some of us don’t have the time, motivation or simply the money to “buy local” for everything.

Do you use an HMO? Any form of health insurance? Do you have money in a 401k? Do you pay taxes? Do you get medical care? Guess what? You’re probably supporting billionaires. Quit with the shaming and holier than thou lecturing over something as stupid as where people shop. A multi TRILLION dollar market cap company which derives most of its profits from its AWS platform (which is really b2c for the most part), really wouldn’t be a impacted by a few hundred people “boycotting” them.

Your issue is with capitalism itself. Keep your criticism focused, rather than acting like we’re the problem. It’s not like shopping at Wal Mart and supporting the Walton family is that much better.

Buying things at Amazon is no better or worse than buying things from other big box stores. Supporting the Walton family isn’t much better.

The real focus should be on Amazon’s treatment of its employees at its warehouses and delivery drivers, and its obvious avoidance of taxes (both by major shareholders like Bezos and at the corporate level). Next, make sure the rest of society benefits to some extent with all the profit they’re making from AI investments (they’re making a ton with AWS of course, but poised to make a lot when Anthropic goes public).

We’re not going anywhere by simply lecturing people to stop shopping at whichever places saves people a buck or two, especially in this economy where wallets are stretched thin.

Now it's Amazon...

Has always seemed elitist to me. I have always shopped at WalMart because it was what I could afford. Now Amazon is affordable. I guess I'm a bad person because I don't have enough money to buy boutique clothes that don't fit me.

76. Honestly I don't care about any of these people one way or the other

It’s like other events for elites like Davos, or Cannes.

What bothers me more is their influence on the political system, their ability to get out of paying taxes, and somehow their brilliant foresight to invest in things that always go up… while those of us in the middle class get fucked and audited for the most minor things. And we’re also used for exit liquidity. This is why I can’t trust a hedge funder like Streyer, who made his money manipulating markets.

Fuck them. I don’t care about their political contributions or their causes. They’re all part of the top 0.1%

Make them all pay more taxes.

Keeping a tally of attending celebrities seems like a waste of time.

It will definitely affect any spending I might do on music / movies / television.

I've cut wayyyyy back since 2024, but I want to be informed on the quislings that are falling in line.

88. This event did not support Bezos. It supported the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Costumes Art.

Bezos was an honorary chair of the event. The chairs were: Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams
Chairs of events organize, speak, order things, make donations etc.

Take what you will from it, but no funds were sent to Bezos.

I believe they were appointed honorary chairs by Anna Wintour

Streep didn't bow out. She never participates, because these events are not "her thing"

I think she's pushing 80 and well, these costumes show a ton of skin.

I think the event is dumb and has always been excess of whatever....
