Howard Beale became less entertaining after the network exec explained reality to him:

Along with Face in a Crowd.

Interestingly,Duvall ,in Network, played a ruthless tv exec..unlikeable,and not his usual typecasting.(But Ned Beatty was cosmic in his role.)

As with Andy Griffith ,in A Face in the Crowd.Sure wasnt good ole Andy of Mayberry in that one!

Network is mandatory watching, in my book. The only part I didn't care for was the affair between William Holden and the much younger Faye Dunaway.

That speech by Ned Beatty is the real message of the film, and all too real.

but the affair ,to me,illustrated another facet of the ruthlessness of ambition in the media ...and by its ilk.
The third film included in my holy trinity of cinema is Seven Days in May..what a movie!!
Coup d'etat,anyone?

Great cast. Today, more than ever, we need high ranking officers whose first loyalty is to the Constitution and their oath.
