Over on a busy social media site I use. I mentioned that I was home from the hospital after being treated for a flare-up of COPD.
I have lots of friends there, or what that site calls people who follow you. My favorite eply about content about being glad I was home was this statement. "Well, you deserved t9hat for your filthy habit! Maybe it will get you next time." There were others that were similar. Who does that? Friends?
Nothing like that here on DU. THANK GOODNESS.

(2,402 posts)So many sites have disappeared because of toxic people. They live to disrupt and cause chaos, sounds familiar. They really dont care about anything other than being assholes. Can you imagine being on an antique radio site and folks are arguing over which one is better Philco or Zenith. It was ugly.

(1,754 posts)What is wrong with those people?! We all do things that are unhealthy--bet most of those people could be called
out for any number of "filthy habits"! Hope you are feeling better.

I"m an old EMT -- retired two years ago after running rescue in a rural VA county for 14 years. Several COPD patients, knew them all very well, helped them through some rough times and flare-ups. We were 30 minutes away from our little rural hospital so our intervention was critical.
Glad to hear you are back home and I'm certain you will follow the doc's orders, keep your concentrator in good shape, don't let anyone or anything kink or obstruct your O2 hoses.
Call 911 at the slightest discomfort. In fact, if you have not done so, contact your 911 managers -- local poiice, fire, or rescue -- and have them make a note on your address that you are a COPD patient as well as noting any special conditions. That way, when you call 911 and we are dispatched, the dispatchers wil inform us that there's a COPD patient at that address with XXXXX going on.
Welcome back home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(53,503 posts)I was a long time smoker and I have COPD. Everyone has vices or addictions. What makes some total strangers on the Internet think they can pass judgment on people they don't know?
Of course, I was raised at a time when almost everyone I knew smoked and there was little or no concern about health risks aside from an occasional nagging cough. Some doctors even recommended smoking to calm nerves or to lose weight.
Social media has allowed me to keep in touch with old friends and family. We share photos, life events, and memories, but there are people who go online without a filter and cut down people they don't know. It is unsettling and can even be dangerous. The lack of sensitivity and accountability is stunning. It is hard to imagine what could cause such mindless cruelty.

(115 posts)At first I thought fake accounts, but no, started seeing posts from people I worked with years ago, or were parents of kids I knew through school events.
We have a canyon area near us, filled with a lot of anti govt Libertarians. They had a wash run over a couple of years ago and some local was going off on the Governor, THIS IS ALL NEWSCUMS FAULT!
Now the area is next to Federal land, but even better, one of his neighbors stated, we told you not to dynamite the creek last summer so the water would flow right behind your house. All the debris caused the storm drains to clog!
Never saw another post from the guy. At a minimum I hope his neighbors forced him to move.

(14,192 posts)People who write or say such things have a different, filthier habit that you probably couldn't even imagine. They live in such deep shame over it they need to palliate their discomfort by lashing out at others.

(433 posts)You don't deserve that at all! FWIW, I've been lurking here for 20 years so, despite the low post count, been reading your posts for about as long as that and agree with whomever it was that said you're one of my favorites. Always learn something from reading what you write.
Pray tell, if simply falling prey to the marketing machine leveraged against as by the manufacturers of a legal product that was essentially shoved down our throats and lied about for decades like good little consumers (sigh) means we deserve to die a painful, horrid death, what, might I ask, do people who, um, I dunno, r@p3 kids and cover it up or try to overthrow the government or have masked goons shoot people in the face and disappear children deserve?
Whoever said that to you, I hope they have exactly the day - and the life - they deserve. We here at DU love you!
As an aside - I'm a lifelong smoker as were both my parents. They were the BEST people I ever knew and I hope I'm anything like them.
