(81,530 posts)I do not know know how close the fire is to the Library--but the goats keeping the brush down
sure will be helpful if the fire comes to it.
The Reagan Presidential Library should be safe. They keep the surrounding grounds free from fire fuel with the use of goats.

(18,859 posts)We had a military-precision anti-fire attack by the VCFD who did a helluva job... 200 firefighters, 3 fixed wing and 5-6 helicopters within an hour... held the property loss to a minimum.
SoCal gets a bad rep for LA and it's problems... but Ventura County and the Northern parts of LA County are top notch
Sympthsical
(11,114 posts)The wind yesterday was something. Leaves, branches, and whole trees scattered around the streets. I saw a massive palm frond get dislodged and smack someone on the noggin (they were fine).
We've had such late, late rains this spring with a lot of late growth - I'm still mowing the lawn weekly. Now it's all drying out with the wind and all that grass in the hills is browning. There have been a few controlled burns in the area to try and mitigate some of it, but not nearly enough.
It feels like we're about to have a whole summer of shit.

(792 posts)We evacuated but is burned right behind our property. We had to quickly get our 9 goats, four dogs, and house cat. Had to leave the chickens and barn cats behind. No time. The house three from ours burned down. Crazy.

(792 posts)We seriously lucked out. The goats did their job and ate all the brush so we were already in compliance with our brush clearing.
But damn that was close!
