How does he get away with it?

How does he get away with it?

Because no one ever thought that anyone would try what he is doing – not what he is “trying to do,” but WHAT HE IS DOING.

Think about it.

If I tell you: The President will rip the East Wing off the White House then use the space to build a throne room that dwarfs the White House. Your response? NEVER HAPPEN. Congress will stop him. The Courts will stop him. My response? You see how well that worked out.

If I tell you: The President will build a triumphal arch, dwarfing the Lincoln Memorial, at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. Your response? NEVER HAPPEN. Congress will stop him. The Courts will stop him. My response? You see how well that worked out.

If I tell you: The President will establish a slush fund of $1.8 billion – or some figure he will name. He and he alone decides who gets money from this fund. He will award the Jan 6 rioters a few hundred thousand each, give some to his family, God only knows what will happen to the rest. Your response? NEVER HAPPEN. Congress will stop him. The Courts will stop him. My response? You see how well that worked out.

If I tell you: The President will dispatch his private army – ICE – to Democratic stronghold cities prior to the 2026 election to ensure that his people win. Your response? NEVER HAPPEN. Congress will stop him. The Courts will stop him. My response? You will see in November how well that worked out.

He cannot be stopped because our system is built on the belief that we all will stay within the bounds of the law. We have no mechanism to deal with someone who simply ignores the bounds of law and decency. He cannot and will not be stopped.

If you thought the ballroom, the arch, the slush fund will be the end of it . . . . .

We are fucked.

The billionaires and multimillionaires, including those on the Supreme Court, do not care what he does so long as he does whatever they want to further enrich themselves.

Some brakes may be applied if Democrats take control of at least the House or the Senate, preferably both, but even then the SC will most likely overturn any legislation that tries to stop Trump's destruction. I would not be surprised if Trump destroys the whole White House and builds a palace since he seems to intend being president for life and Republicans will do nothing to stop him.

Not all but most did not have the imagination to conceptualize the thought of the greatest threat to our Nation's way of life was from within.

You know who did have that foresight?
The founding fathers. They gave us the tools. It was up to us through our politicians to protect what is America.

Our guidebook was used by foreign influence with the cooperation of domestic agents.

Make no mistake about it, this is and has been a coup of which we're still in the midst.

The Felon is their agent but he is not alone. We knew who he was, he showed us and does so, not daily but from moment to moment. We thought we dodged a bullet after his first term with the pandemic.

But, our leaders did not lead and our complacency has given him an opportunity to succeed in accomplishing what he failed to do the first time around.

Those at the highest echelons of our Government who have time and time again not been held accountable for breaking our laws. That is especially true of every elected Republican President in my lifetime, starting with Nixon.

We relied upon the other 2 branches of our Government to be the secondary safety mechanism. Instead, we got a perfect storm of greed and corruption culminating in what can only be described as the worst Government in the history of these "United" States of America.

Our politicians did the job of the people by introducing, voting on and implementing some of the most important legislation ever to pass through Congress. It has been settled law, challenged with great ferocity in the highest court. And yet somehow, if you put the right corrupt pieces in place, our lives can be changed in such a way as to be permanently damaged. Sometimes by 6 people or sometimes by one. That is not how our Government works. But, that's the point, isn't it. To make sure our Government only works for the chosen few.

America's democracy only held together by spit and a prayer.
Was only a gentleman's agreement.

Yes we do -- Congress and the Supreme Court.

America's Founders created three separate branches of government as checks & balances in the belief that each branch would protect its own power, thereby ensuring that no single branch could run roughshod over our government. Power would not be vested in a single entity. The president could not become a king. The free press, outside the government, would inform The People enfranchised to vote malefactors out of office.

But the Founders did not foresee, or could not prevent, the inherently corrupt system of campaign finance in which political careers depend on vast sums of money provided by the malefactors of great wealth who increasingly own the "free press" and use it to misinform The People and turn them against each other.

They did not foresee modern mass electronic media and the internet with algorithims and artificial intelligence becoming tools of oligarchs who corrupt not only the members of Congress they bankroll but the judges they place on the Supreme Court.

They did not foresee or could not prevent a binary system of two political parties, with one serving the interests of a small minority controlling vast wealth & power while the majority of people struggle to get by -- programmed to vote against their own best interests.

Instead of three branches checking and balancing each other, the members thereof have become accomplices serving the oligarchy.

The man who would be king is a symptom, rather than the cause, of an electoral system corrupted by concentrated wealth. The mechanism to correct systemic imbalance and corruption -- free and fair elections -- is now imperiled by voter suppression, gerrymandering, and a president with an army of ICE thugs and a military run by an accomplice who has purged our armed forces of leaders who may have provided guardrails against it becoming the tool of a tyrant.

In less than six months, then two years later, we shall see whether the Constitutional rule of law created by America's Founders survives, or falls onto the ash heap of history.
