Then the child rapist wouldn't dare touch them.
Despite its $4 billion-a-day military budget, America only punches down.
It's like a Division-1 college football power playing Division-3 teams every week.

(45,482 posts)We are now a country that arrests people for expressing free speech. We attack fish boats without any proof. And we lock up immigrants in brutal conditions without any kind of due process. Thats who we are now. The whole Republican party seems fine with it

Right on cue, El Bastardo is now rattling America's sabres against them.
And since Bolivians are mostly indigenous, he's convinced his Chumpkins will hoot and holler at the thought (as they did with Venezuela).

(4,111 posts)I suggest you're letting your frustration and hatred of Trump cloud your judgment.
Iran is a brutal theocracy that has killed more than 7000 of its own people in the last year, executes people for protesting, executes people for being gay and prohibits women from applying for a passport, choosing where to live or being head of household.
They have an institutionalized framework that allows tens of thousands of 10-14 year old girls to be married off.

(45,482 posts)And hatred of Trump is completely completely rational. Whats not to hate?

(4,111 posts)I'll stand with these guys:
"Iran will never get a nuclear weapon on my watch." President Biden
"Remember, I have always insisted that I will do what is necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and I will." - President Obama
"We are committed to working with our allies to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, because a nuclear-armed Iran is a threat to the region and the entire world." - President Clinton

(1,705 posts)Trump is shit.
Iran are fanatical terrorist government that support suicidal ideology. These two statements are true.
Im on the side of not understanding how our party can wish our enemies have the means to destroy us.
I do not support the ideology in our party. Iran has pledged death to America for decades, and our own party politicians campaigned on a tough stance on Iran until today. This new strategy of uplifting our enemies and disparaging our country outside of our leadership is not a winning strategy.

Anyone who thinks that Iran would ever have the capability of destroying the United States needs to do a little fact-based analysis.

(1,705 posts)How about in London? They can reach London.
How about a dirty bomb in a US city?
You need to take a step back and stop idolizing enemies of our country because you dont like the president. The war has already started and members here wish Iran had a nuclear weapon. Its insane to think that we are at that point. Im not.

(4,014 posts)You need to step back and stop terrorizing yourself.
Your words: "Im on the side of not understanding how our party can wish our enemies have the means to destroy us."
I pointed out that is hysterical hyperbole.
You respond with "a city."
Do I think that would be a good thing? Of course I do not. Don't be daft.
But tell me: What happens after these madmen blow up this city?
The world surrenders?
Or Iran is made into nuclear glass?
You honestly believe that for the joy of nuking one city, Iran would consign itself to actual annihilation?
I think you have been reading to much scary stuff about The Muslins.
But, hey. As Charles P. Pierce says: That shit won't stir itself.

The country they run is not that far removed from what was described in The Handmaid's Tale. In fact it was the inspiration for the book. Out of control religious fanaticism.
I would hate to see them a nuclear power. Nothing good can come of it.

(7,066 posts)but as that cat's out of the bag, and as Mr. trump's thoroughly illustrated his cavalier attitude about a nuclear conflict, my position is that our nation gave up the moral high ground and has little to no room to lecture anyone (outside of our state-sanctioned tantrums, of course)

(79,257 posts)that no country (or group) have nuclear weapons. Of course, that isn't going to happen any time soon. Yet I still think that President Kennedy was correct in opposing Israel's getting nukes.
In no manner do I have a positive opinion of Iran's government. Or, for that matter, the current governments of the United States or Israel. But I do recognize that Iran has the right and responsibility to protect its citizens from attacks by other nations. More, I consider Netanyahu's "they are only two weeks away!" to be the sibling of the "yellow cake/ mushroom cloud" bullshit that this country was subjected to leading up to the last necroconservative war we fought for Israel.
