NJ-07: Varela (D) picks up more progressive support
With two weeks to go until Election Day, a new set of progressive organizations is lending support to Democratic congressional candidate Brian Varela, who’s locked in a competitive four-way primary for the 7th district.
Among the new endorsers are the Council on American-Islamic Relations Action, a leading Muslim advocacy group, and Our Revolution New Jersey, the state affiliate of the progressive group founded in the wake of Bernie Sanders’s 2016 presidential run. Also endorsing are A New Policy, UnidosUS Action Fund, and New American Leaders Action Fund.
“Brian has demonstrated a strong commitment to justice, civil rights, and representing the diverse communities of CD 7 with integrity and compassion,” CAIR Action official Omayma Mansour said in a statement. “We believe he will be a powerful advocate for working families and for the values of equity and inclusion in Washington.”
“Brian helped working NJ families access early education, supports Medicare For All, and was the first in the race to reject corporate PAC money,” Our Revolution NJ’s board members concurred.
