I've got to think it's a bone thrown to Congressional GOP - an opportunity to oppose Trump and appear reasonable. Trump has no capital to lose, those running for office have a severe credibility problem, this will give them a bounce if they oppose it.

Even if it were only symbolic. And he wants his own private army even less accountable than ICE

Schlump would NEVER go along with something like that. Especially now, when he's even more irrational and more obsessed with his own "greatnesss" than ever before.

For two years, Mike Johnson refused to hang the plaque on the wall honoring police officers who defended the Capitol on J6 against a mob of violent rioters, even though a law was passed to mandate it.

But he supports paying over a billion dollars to the criminal rioters.

to the impeachment list.

Trump and Jan 6 participants should have been still in prison including those that planned or provided funding.

This scenario is bizarre. Trump settles a lawsuit with the IRS that includes immunity for him and his family for ay IRS crimes. Then is given $1.7 billion to disperse to the Jan 6 perps that received legal or other justice. Makes my head hurt.

Good for Senator Markey.

the taxpayer funded slush fund is that convicted Jan 6 felons shouldnt get taxpayer money. That’s a bad message as it makes it seem like if they are excluded it’s not a problem. The message needs to be on NO TAXPAYER funded stash is available to ANYONE. If someone has a beef against the Biden DOJ they should file a lawsuit and pursue a claim in the courts. The idea that you can make this ok by excluding the Jan 6 terrorists is not the message.

Naturally, Trump claims he has nothing to do with it. It's just a deal between his own lawyers and the acting AG, who is also his personal lawyer.

Total corruption, abuse of power, whatever you want to call it. It's impeachable if it gets enough votes.

At least we are trying to do something. However, I will be happy to see the bastard humiliated for being impeached not once, not twice but 3 F**KING times! He will go ballistic and I sure hope the stress and strain is too much for him to handle.

Mitch McConnell is one, and he still pulled weight with other Repukes in the last impeachment vote. If Chump gets a 3rd impeachment trial, I believe he would finally be convicted and removed from office. It has never happened before so we would be swimming in some scary waters if it gets to that.

However it's scary knowing Chump is still holding onto power (plus all the grift) after all the damage he has already done so far. I believe the US Congress (mainly the Senate) needs to pull up their big-boy pants and get this done.

After the wave of media consolidation in the 1990s and the George W. administration going all out to open the doors to even more, Ed Markey was one of a couple of people in Congress who worked for years to get legislation that would allow local nonprofit organizations to apply for a low power radio license. After many years they got it across the finish line in late 2010. Obama signed the Local Community Radio Act into law in late December, just before the Tea Party folks took power.

Our community has a local nonprofit radio station thanks to Ed Markey (and one more Congressman whose name I'd have to dig into old notes to find). I got to hear him speak in 2005 at a big conference on media reform I attended.

So when emergencies happen here people know they can count on the radio station.

Still doing the right thing!

Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-Ill.) said the interest in Cuba was just the latest effort to topple a string of world leaders.

“The fact that we have a president who believes the Western Hemisphere is his backyard to play on, I think, is really disturbing, and it certainly shows that our president has no respect for country sovereignty,” she told The Hill.

“When does it stop? First, Venezuela, now we’re in Iran. He jokes about Canada, Greenland, and now he thinks that he’s just going to be able to change leadership in Cuba because he wants it.”

Cuba’s top diplomat, Bruno Rodríguez, fired back at Rubio Thursday, saying the country poses no threat whatsoever, accusing the secretary of lying “again to instigate a military aggression that would provoke the shedding of Cuban and American blood.”
