There's a certain distance created by the stone garden of the cemetery. It creates a boundary marker between the living and the dead.
But there's a personal familiarity and immediate grief observing a hopeful puppy still waiting for someone who will not be coming home, and being unable to understand why.

The one juxtapositioning the child and simple crosses against a national cemetery got to me big time.

But the last one, with the pup waiting for his master to come home.... I just can't.
