Widespread, multi-state Loud boom and houses shaking. Happened 2ish this afternoon.
Felt in Massachusetts & Rhode Island for sure. I think other states too.
Maybe a meteor but nothing official.

Midlands public safety; a mysterious boom
It wasnt an earthquake, Columbia, it was a sonic boom. What causes the enormous noise?
At 5:24 p.m. May 28, many people in the Columbia area heard a loud boom and felt structures shake. The U.S. Geological Survey determined it was a sonic boom, not an earthquake, though no specific cause had been reported as of May 29. A sonic boom occurs when objects travel through air faster than the speed of sound, with both supersonic aircraft and meteors capable of producing them. NASA notes that sonic booms at normal overpressure levels present minimal danger to the public, though the federal government has banned supersonic flights over land since 1973 due to public disruption. BOSTON
Did you hear or feel it? Viewers from across Massachusetts are reporting hearing a loud boom Saturday afternoon, but it's not immediately clear what it was.
Following our initial report, multiple witnesses shared video of the sudden boom. All were recorded at approximately 2:11 p.m.
At approximately that same time, NOAA's GOES-19 weather satellite Geostationary Lightning Mapper shows a burst over the Massachusetts coast.

(7,598 posts)Thus, some musical accompaniment for the Madcap Meteor Storm,
doubtless precipitated by Republican soul corruption (everyone agrees).

(103,934 posts)A loud roaring sound that wasn't thunder or anything I could identify easily though it seemed more like the roaring of a passing jet engine. Heard one a few days ago too, can't recall exactly when. West central Maine.
