Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner sank deeper into hot water as his wife revealed that she found sexually explicit texts on his phone, per reporting by the Wall Street Journal.
Platner's wife, Amy Gertner, told his Senate campaign about the texts with several different women, insider sources told the WSJ. Gertner discovered the texts in spring 2025, and in August, she told an aide whom she considered a friend, while the campaign was doing opposition research on Platner, the WSJ reported.
Campaign aides told Gertner that they didn't expect the messages to be a problem as it was a "private matter," according to the WSJ, which mentioned that the couple had been undergoing counseling.

(55,044 posts)ever first time elected US Senator in American history. That level of first time elected age matters in elections, regardless of what some people think.
Mills the centrist is pro filibuster, she is anti-decriminalisation for small personal use amounts of drugs, is anti red-flag laws for guns, she has vetoed collective bargaining rights (so is anti-union to a noticiable degree), vetoed wealth taxes, vetoed protections for renters, and vetoed some tribal sovereignty laws, etc. Those are unpopular stances in our Party.
Schumer and Gillibrand foolishly tossed all his eggs into a flawed basket with her (Schumer especially has a somewhat poor recruiting record over the years) and now we all have to hope Platner, despite all his flaws, can win the day and beat the vile Collins.
See this article that foretold her problems:

Gov. Janet Mills has a popularity problem. And not just with some Republicans who have, shall we say, disliked her for years.
No, this problem is with her base. Heres the story: In June, Gov. Janet Mills was soaring with 55% job approval (+11) including 90% among Democrats. Undoubtedly those numbers were buoyed by her standing up to Trump last winter when he tried to defund us for treating trans kids with dignity. But, in truth, her numbers have been in this range for basically her entire second term.
Not anymore. Today, her numbers have plummeted, almost exclusively because of how Democrats feel about her job performance.
In a late October survey by the same firm that conducted the June survey, Mills job approval dropped 12 points from June to 43% (a 23 point net negative swing). Among Democrats, her support cratered from 90% to 68%. All in less than four months.

(98,591 posts)Overall, we rate Raw Story Left Biased based on story selection and editorial positions that usually favor the left. We also rate them High in factual reporting due to proper sourcing, a history of timely corrections, and a clean fact-check record over the last 5 years.
snip
Editorially, most opinion pieces favor the left and denigrate the right, such as this Republicans dishonor the country by smuggling a fringe racist conspiracy theory into Congress and Kevin McCarthys face-plant: The new GOP speaker is not the negotiation ninja he thinks he is. These opinion pieces are sourced properly from credible media outlets like the Washington Post and Salon.
When it comes to science, they support the consensus on issues such as climate change and Covid-19 vaccines. In general, Raw Story is left biased based on progressive-liberal editorial perspectives. They are also fact-based and correct errors when discovered.

(4,292 posts)Their uses of sources, according to sources, provokes much discussion among the highest levels of the political elite.
"While the Senator strongly supports the measure, we've encouraged them to approach it with more nuance," reports a senior staffer granted anonymity because they are the Senator.
