forgotten era after the brightness of the looks of the 60's when we went into pastel earth tones. Along with men in suits wearing striped shirts with a highly patterned tie. Notice how high the pants are on the leg when sitting down. Also the obligatory maroon/rust/burnt orange/beige "something" that seemed omnipresent everywhere we went.

1. Lee Marvin... I have a memory of him

This is kind of silly.

In the olden days, I was a travel agent. I had a reduced rate airline ticket, and hoped to be upgraded and seated in first class, if a seat was still available at take off. You would not find out until the last minute. (in case a late check-in arrived or a very late passenger purchased a first class ticket)... The time arrived and there was one first class seat not filled. I was called up and given the boarding pass for that seat. I get settled and comfortable. We're about to leave and there is a commotion. Something is happening and delaying the flight. They're waiting for something. After several minutes a large figure emerges from the front entry area, about 5 or 6 ft from me, and it's Lee Marvin.(!) He enters with carry on luggage and a large hanging bag (the kind for suits or dresses). He looks around --- and I'm expecting they're going to ask me to move to the rear because surely, he will get the first class seat! But No! He pauses and moves on through the cabin to the rear. I never saw him again. I was so happy I didn't have to move!

I just remember him being very large and physically imposing. I recognized him as a movie star, but I wasn't a fan, so I wasn't in awe or anything.
As I said, it's kind of a silly memory!

Regarding this video... Isn't it weird to watch people light up and smoke cigs in an interview??

2. Yes it is a distant time when people

would smoke on TV. I remember the "Jackie Gleason Show" weekly variety show from Miami Beach on CBS and Jackie would do an opening monologue where he would sit down with a "beverage" and light up a smoke and then do the monologue. They were great stories Jackie would tell about people he knew or things that happened. Gleason could tell a story with the best of them. Better than most in fact. It's also a distant time when "stars" would just go ride in coach and not make a scene about getting seated in 1st class. It takes me back to when air travel was really special like on Pan-Am when they were around. "Makes The Going Great" was the slogan.
