I'd say Chris Murphy knows asking Nepo Plumber Baby Mullin for assurances is sort of like pissing up a rope.
He's got to do it, though. I respect him for going on record, giving Mullin the opportunity to make a promise he's sure to break, or to not make the promise at all. This is how the game is played. When you're in a room with a skunk, you don't ask them if the fragrance you're detecting is Calvin Klein.
