A former associate of Melania Trump has sensationally claimed the first lady was an “escort” for Jeffrey Epstein and met the president through the notorious sex offender.
Former Brazilian model Amanda Ungaro dropped the bombshell allegation on a taped recording, accusing her ex-partner, modeling agent-turned-presidential envoy Paolo Zampolli, of lying about introducing Melania and Donald Trump at a party in 1998.
The story of how Melania Knauss later met her future husband while working as one of Zampolli’s models in New York is now part of MAGA folklore.

Giovanni Zampolli died in a skiing accident in 1988, when Paolo Zampolli was 18 years old. [73][76] One source places the accident at Saint Moritz, Switzerland. [1] No information about Paolo Zampolli’s mother appears in any public source consulted for this profile; her name, nationality, and current circumstances are undocumented. Paolo Zampolli has described himself in interviews as an only child raised in a wealthy Milanese family. [72]
As a child, Paolo Zampolli had a personal connection to John Casablancas (French-Danish, born December 3, 1942, New York City; died July 20, 2013, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), the founder of Elite Model Management. Paolo Zampolli told Vanity Fair in 2001: “I had John Casablancas spending the summer with me when I was a kid.” [66][68][71] John Casablancas corroborated this, saying of Paolo Zampolli: “I’ve known Paolo from before the beginning.” [66][68][71] This childhood acquaintance predates the later professional relationship between the two men, and connects Paolo Zampolli’s origins to one of the most extensively documented predatory networks in the history of the modelling industry.
After Giovanni Zampolli’s death in 1988, Paolo Zampolli left college to take over Harbert. [66][68][76] He later told the New York Times that Milan felt “too small” for him. [1][2] Paolo Zampolli founded the New York modelling agency ID Model Management in the mid-1990s, sponsored Melania Knauss’s H-1B work visa in 1996, and introduced Melania Knauss to Donald Trump at a party he hosted in September 1998. Paolo Zampolli now lives primarily in Washington DC in a reported $17 million Georgetown home, the walls of which are said to be filled with photographs of him and Donald Trump. [74][108] Paolo Zampolli’s name appears in 11 documents in the Department of Justice’s 2026 Epstein file releases, alongside a 2011 email in which Jeffrey Epstein warned an Emirati correspondent: “Be careful, zampoli is trouble. The New York Times reported on March 20, 2026 that he used access to a senior federal immigration official to have the mother of his teenage son deported during a custody dispute, a claim he denies. Between April 7 and April 19, 2026, the Paolo Zampolli file went from long-running background scandal to active political crisis. His former partner Amanda Ungaro, deported to Brazil in 2025, returned to public attention by posting direct threats at First Lady Melania Trump on X, stating that the First Lady knew Amanda Ungaro had been inside ICE detention and accusing Donald Trump of sex crimes. [59][62] Two days later, on April 9, 2026, Melania Trump delivered a statement from the White House Grand Foyer denying any friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and rejecting suggestions that Jeffrey Epstein introduced her to Donald Trump. [58][108] Paolo Zampolli publicly offered to testify before Congress under oath to support her account. [55][52] Amanda Ungaro gave a sequence of interviews to El País, O Globo, the Miami Herald, Newsweek, and the Courier in which she described Paolo Zampolli as a recruiter of young women for Jeffrey Epstein, alleged that Paolo Zampolli harassed her from the age of 15, and stated she had agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee. On April 14, 2025, Dan Berulis, an IT staffer at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), filed a Congressional whistleblower complaint with an extraordinary and urgent claim: The so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had seemingly compromised the agency’s data and appeared to be exfiltrating it out of the NLRB entirely. Additionally, Berulis claimed that mere minutes after DOGE members had accessed the agency’s data, there appeared to be login attempts from an IP address in Russia.
At the time, DOGE teams, orchestrated by billionaire Elon Musk, were sweeping across government, firing federal workers and accessing sensitive data and technical systems with no oversight and little transparency.
The following day, Berulis went public in an NPR article with his name and claims. In it, he claimed that in the lead-up to his Congressional disclosure, a threatening note had been taped to his door, including photos of him walking his dog that appeared to have been taken by a drone. Berulis was already scared that speaking out had made him a target.

In addition to the Ungaro theory, Wolff speculated at the time of the press conference that the first lady was reacting to an upcoming book linking the Trumps to the former prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor by historian Andrew Lownie.
“A new book was published yesterday in the US and UK, entitled ‘The Rise and Fall of The House of York,’” Wolff posted on X. “It's by a British journalist by the name of Andrew Lownie, and it's about the life of Prince Andrew. But it is also about his connection to Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, and Melania Trump.”
Wolff added, “In fact, it contains a passage in which Epstein is quoted — apparently from a 2007 interview — where he says that he had sex with Melania a full year before Donald Trump commenced his relationship with her.”

The case of Amanda Ungaro makes the consequences unmistakable. Ungaro, a Brazilian model and Zampolli’s long-time partner, circulated within Trump’s social orbit and the same elite networks. As a teenager, she flew from Paris to New York on Epstein’s “Lolita Express” plane. Ungaro’s agent at the time was Jean-Luc Brunel, a close Epstein associate and alleged procurer. Shortly after, she signed with Zampolli’s agency and began a 20-year relationship with him.
Based on “anonymous tips,” she was arrested in June 2025 in Miami on charges of fraud and practicing medicine without a license. Shortly after, Zampolli, who had been in a long custody dispute with her over their teenage son, contacted senior Immigration and Customs Enforcement official David Venturella. Acting on that outreach, Venturella pressed ICE’s Miami office to take custody of Ungaro before she could be released on bail, noting that the matter was important to someone close to the White House.
Ungaro was subsequently transferred into ICE detention for three and a half months and later deported to Brazil, a process that ICE officials and DHS later attributed to her immigration status and an expired visa. Ungaro argued that Zampolli used immigration enforcement and state power to strengthen his position in their child custody battle.
Independent reporter Brian Krassenstein linked Ungaro’s deportation and threats to expose Jeffrey Epstein to Melania Trump’s recent public statement, writing: “I can confirm with 99% confidence that the reason Melania Trump came out yesterday with her Epstein Statement is because of information possessed by a former friend, and Epstein survivor, Brazilian Model Amanda Ungaro.”
Zampolli did not simply benefit from influence. He deployed one of the most coercive arms of government as a private weapon. If the elite is prepared to use immigration enforcement, which tears apart people’s lives, on its own members, there is no limit as to what it can do to workers.
Zampolli’s broader business career follows the same pattern. His legal battle with billionaire Ron Burkle centered on allegations that he attempted to broker favorable press through a $220,000 arrangement with a New York Post writer. The dispute led to an FBI sting operation. Despite recorded meetings, federal prosecutors declined to bring charges, citing insufficient evidence of criminal intent.

One of the few things the American people agree on is that the mainstream media is woefully inadequate. According to a 2016 Gallup poll, only about 20 percent of Americans have confidence in the television news and in newspapers. Donald Trump effectively harnessed this distrust during his campaign, and still attacks the media before his fans when he wants to prompt applause.
Americans recognize that the media does not represent their views, and media consolidation is largely to blame. In the early 1980s, journalist Ben Bagdikian calculated that the majority of US media was held by just 50 corporations — and the number has dropped to only a handful since then.
This means that national and even local news coverage priorities are dictated from afar —
and by business leaders, not by journalists on the ground. It means that as print and broadcast journalism struggles to remain profitable in the face of free, online alternatives, hard financial decisions that affect reporters and the stories they tell will be made in corporate boardrooms. And it assures that some issues — issues in which corporate America is uninterested — go uncovered, while some voices — particularly female, minority and immigrant voices — rarely make it into print or onto the airwaves.

The best-selling author argued that Epstein exploited a “lack of courage” that he said defines “the age of hyper-connected networks,” where connections in elite circles is the ultimate currency.

Trump Was Worried When Ghislaine Maxwell Was Arrested for Sex Trafficking, Per Book

A new excerpt of Maggie Haberman’s Donald Trump biography says the former president expressed a degree of concern when Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested on sex trafficking charges.
The Guardian flagged a portion of Confidence Man, Haberman’s newly-released book filled with intriguing revelations about the 45th president. According to the book, when the news broke of Maxwell’s arrest, Trump asked campaign aides whether she named him among the powerful contacts who might be able to protect her from prosecution over her role as Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice.
“‘You see that article in the [New York] Post today that mentioned me?’” Trump asked his aides. “He kept going, to silence. ‘She say anything about me?’”
Trump was apparently referring to a Page Six article published two days after Maxwell’s arrest. Epstein Hoffenberg, a former affiliate of the disgraced financier, was quoted saying, “Ghislaine thought she was untouchable — that she’d be protected by the intelligence communities she and Jeffrey helped with information: the Israeli intelligence services, and Les Wexner, who has given millions to Israel; by Prince Andrew, President Clinton and even by President Trump, who was well-known to be an acquaintance of her and Epstein’s.”
In 2020, Trump sparked controversy when he reacted to Maxwell’s arrest by saying, “I just wish her well.” Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison earlier this year for helping Epstein sexually abuse young women before he committed suicide while awaiting trial for the charges he faced.

During a White House coronavirus press briefing on July 21, a reporter from the New York Post asked President Donald Trump about accused Jeffrey Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. “I haven't really been following it too much,” the President said about her case. “I just wish her well, frankly.”
Maxwell had been taken into custody at her 156-acre Bradford, New Hampshire estate on July 2 and charged with six counts related to the sexual abuse of young women. She was denied bail a week later and is currently in jail in Brooklyn.
Trump has known Maxwell for decades, and while it is unusual for a sitting President to comment on an ongoing criminal investigation, let alone offer verbal support to the accused, Trump has done so on several occasions, including during the prosecution of Roger Stone and Michael Flynn.
This time his words of support sparked an immediate and prolonged backlash. In an interview that aired August 3, Axios national political correspondent Jonathan Swan asked, “Mr. President, Ghilaine Maxwell has been arrested on allegations of child sex trafficking. Why would you wish such a person well?” In the following exchange, he doubled down on his statement. “Her boyfriend was either killed or committed suicide in jail. She’s now in jail. Yeah, I wish her well.”

Trump Friend Asked ICE to Detain the Mother of His Child

Last June, the man credited with introducing President Donald Trump to his wife asked the administration for a favor.
Paolo Zampolli, a former modeling agent turned presidential special envoy, had learned that his Brazilian ex-girlfriend was in a Miami jail, arrested on charges of fraud at her workplace. They had been in a custody battle over their teenage son. Now he saw an opportunity.
He reached out to a top official at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, explaining that his ex was in the country illegally, according to records obtained by The New York Times and a person familiar with the communications. Could she be put in ICE detention? That could help him get his son back.
The official, David Venturella, promptly called the agency’s Miami office to ensure that ICE agents would pick up the woman from the jail before she was released on bail, according to the records and a person with knowledge of the conversation who requested anonymity to discuss it. During the call, Venturella noted that the case was important to someone close to the White House.
The woman, Amanda Ungaro, was placed in ICE custody and ultimately deported, an outcome that may well have happened regardless of Zampolli’s meddling. But the ICE official’s willingness to spring into action for a Trump ally — even one in a low-level, largely ceremonial role — reflects a recurring theme of the second Trump administration: The levers of the federal government can be pulled to settle a personal score.
