Now, the report comes as Democrats are more aware than ever about how the effort to hold Trump accountable will, of course, require flipping seats in the currently Republican majority Senate. And lots of political observers agree that one of their best shots at flipping a seat should be in Maine. It's a state that Donald Trump actually lost three times. He lost it to Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden. It is represented by longtime Republican incumbent Susan Collins, who has held that seat since 1997, even as the state has elected Democrats at other statewide offices and for president.

And it's also very clear that Platner is a very natural, high-level political talent. He's been able to draw large crowds throughout the state, sometimes in small towns where half the town's there. He has barnstormed basically nonstop doing event after event after event.
It's also true that Platner is a political unknown. He's a combat veteran who readily admits to have -- having a very messy past. And with that past has come a slow, consistent drip of negative headlines that he has had to reckon with since entering the race.

It is worth watching for the answers and reactions.

Promoted and endlessly fed to us by a few folks here seemingly determined to undermine the efforts of Democrats in Maine.
But hey, we can always hope Collins becomes more like Massie 🙄

(98,702 posts)Both Sanders and Warren had a closed door meet with him. They want to know if anything else would come out. These are two very progressive Senators (one is mine and I adore them) that endorsed him on day 1 and THEY HAVE CONCERNS and so should we all.
I see what you did and there really isn't any reason to diss me for feeling uncomfortable with Platner.

(29,369 posts)I'd like someone to actually type the words without laughing: Democrats want Collins to win and Republicans to control the Senate because .... because ... something about money (bribed by billionaires, corporations, oligarchs) and how the old establishment centrists despise and fear progressives.
So, Democrats are going to all the trouble of pulling off a complicated conspiracy theory for decades, why exactly? If it's money, what are Democrats spending it on? Where are their private jets and private islands and numerous houses? If nobody is going to explain it, then they shouldn't keep littering DU with it. If the goal is to give me headaches, success!

(36,426 posts)I'm following this Graham Platner thing from a long distance with some interest. I haven't seen any conspiracy theories about the centre of the party, so could you explain what it is?
Also, I did do some reading up on the two-party system and found out only having two parties is what's resulted in the Democratic Party being such a big bus stretching from the left to the right of LW politics. And there's a lot of bickering between the different factions. Right now I'm thinking there should be far less bickering and far more focus on the real issue, which is Trump and his gang of butt-licking cronies destroying US democracy and ransacking what belongs to the American people.
And tbh I think there should be a multiparty parliamentary system in the US like there is in the UK and Australia. There's different factions in the Labor Party, but it seems to work better in the US. The only time I think I've felt revulsion is when Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil went into Parliament as a Labor MP instead of going with the Greens, who were much more reflective of his views. Enough waffling, but no-one who's been attacking Platner has been explaining what the alternative options are, so they do come across as just attacking and smearing. The primary is in a few days so hopefully this won't be an issue then

This is still the primary. I'm a Team player, I don't take my ball and go home in the GE.

(2,738 posts)I'm not a Mainer and I can't vote there, but it's disrespectful to those who are to tear apart the very likely Democratic candidate. I've read over and over from a variety of posters over the years that these kind of discussions only serve to "suppress the vote," sometimes coming from those who now are most vocal about their distaste. Everybody knows the issues and in a few days, thankfully, Mainers will decide. The motives of people continuing to rip on him at this point seem questionable and I can't help but wonder what the purpose is.
And support for "more like Massie" makes, in my opinion, zero sense if it's coming from a Democrat but as you know, one of the joys of being here is our diversity.
Enjoy the day.

Sadly, they are overrun with MAGAs that the knee to trump. They don't give a rats ass about their constituents' wellbeing, the American people as a whole or the constitution.

(9,986 posts)Hayes looked like he was trying to swallow rotten fish through the whole interview. We had to get up and walk around before we started throwing things at Chris...who was formerly one of my favorite pundits. Not anymore after that hit job.
This is nothing but a very powerful top 3% moneyed interests and power hungry establishment that is terrified of the power shifting to the people. But people on both sides of the carefully crafted divided country are wondering why we pay taxes and don't get a whole lot more out of them, instead of wars, and slush funds and tax breaks for the wealthy, and a military that is playing with bombs that get blown out of the sky by a plastic drone....not because we didn't have the capability and the technology, but because some military weapons company made more money buying politicians and selling politicians on the bombs instead of the drones.
Platner, Abdul El-Sayed, Zoran Mamdani and other progressive democratic socialists are bringing back the FDR attitude, and there are too many people who have made themselves very comfortable, and well financed, by running away from FDR type government.

(98,702 posts)Two very PROGRESSIVE Senators that had a closed-door meeting with Platner. Both endorsed him. They obviously are very troubled with what has come out and wanted to know if there was anything else they should worry about. Both their reputations are at stake here.
Chris? He did just fine in that interview and had not swallowed any rotten fish unless...oh, never mind. i will leave it at that.

Mr. Schumers clipped responses to questions about Mr. Platner were echoed by the few Senate Democrats who crossed Constitution Avenue from their offices to meet with Mr. Platner at the headquarters of the Senate Democratic campaign arm. The 90-minute session, which came after an invitation from Mr. Platners aides, was planned before last weekends reports about his texts to women.

No joke sheshe.
There's nothing the Magapubs or Leftists (not Democratic Party members) can throw at him that rises to Platner's problems.
Also - god bless Ras Baraka and Mikie Sherrill.

(38,149 posts)I'd love it if we got Sherrod back in the Senate. We've donated to his campaign this year from out of state.
I know WHO he is and what he BELIEVES. He's like Ossoff . . . How could we NOT help those two out?
