RFK was murdered 58 years ago today. And then we got Nixon. I don't think America will ever really recover.

When I was a boy in N.W. Pennsylvania our next door neighbor in a middle class neighborhood was
the Crawford, County D.A. and his brother was the Republican Governor of the State, Ray Shafer and
to this day the finest man I have ever met. Bobby Kennedy, Al Gore, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and
Kamala Harris Americans and the World have been robbed of so much what made this a great nation.

Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people, but it seems the good, they die young;
I just looked around and he was gone.

After a bridge, the fourth and final verse mentions "Bobby" (referencing Robert F. Kennedy), and ends with a description of him "walking over the hill" with the other three men.

And I refuse to believe that a child rapist, convicted felon, and with the morals of sewer rat won legitimately.

… more of the Vietnam War which got @ least 8 million more people killed because Nixon had
Henry Kissinger and Anna Chennault to stop the peace deal that LBJ had gotten done with
promises of both sides getting a better deal with a Nixon Presidency. In January of 1973 the
exact same deal was signed off on. Bobby would have gotten us out of Vietnam. And my
boyhood friend’s older brother wouldn’t have had his legs blown off.

* Which is toxic to America’s culture, democracy, and decency. Ailes built his brand around
lies packaged as news.

... "lone nut" assassinations, always benefitting the same political actors.

Whether the former America will have to break up into smaller polities, so that some of them can remain at least nominally free / open societies, remains very much an open question.

Acknowledging that he would need to be schooled about women as equal people; he became right about racism, aanti-poverty after a Senate tour of the Mississippi Delta, wanted the Vietnam War to end.

When I say the world; he gave an amazing speech in South Africa about gathering change, and he conferring with his brother JFK during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I lived through it. It was horrific. 😔

That’s the day I lost hope. I was supposed to go to the Ambassador Hotel for the victory party, but had a final the next day, so stayed home to study. Needless to say, the blue book essay I wrote for the final had nothing to do with the subject matter. I wrote about Bobby. And got a C

I happened in NYC to take my dad's little transistor radio to bed to follow your primary.

Woke up at 4AM w a very weird stomach ache. Figured I 'd turn on the radio. Heard what happened and never went back to sleep.
