The images also circulated on Facebook (archived), Instagram (archived) and X (archived). Snopes readers contacted us to ask about the authenticity of the images.

The alleged before-and-after images were fake. The images incorrectly placed a real fountain near the actual South Lawn too close to the White House. The images also placed the Washington Monument to the north of the White House when it is actually located to the south.

It was unclear who originally created or edited the images. The glaring mistakes of geography suggested someone had used artificial intelligence to make them.

Like it isn't bad enough as it is.
This just makes people who find out this is bullshit... accept it more readily since it isn't as bad.

Having said that, I'd like to see legitimate before-and-after photos. I'm sure it isn't pretty.

Is a photo showing the White House South Lawn torn up and under construction for the UFC Fight Night ring in early June 2026 authentic? No, that's not true: The image of the White House lawn with the grass torn out and a large outdoor stadium was rated as likely AI-generated. Photos of the construction available from reputable photo agencies do not show the level of damage depicted in the image as of early June 2026.

...the before and after images of the White House are fake, as evident from the real fountain near the actual South Lawn incorrectly placed too close to the building. The image also placed the Washington Monument to the North of the White House, while it's actually in the south.

The photos also incorrectly depicted the road at the bottom of the South Lawn, curving it down instead of up toward the White House.

The glaring geographical mistakes suggested that it was made using Artificial Intelligence.

Our government is so out of touch with our wants and needs! Placating the narcissistic idiot does’t help us at all.

Why are they catering to the crazy guy any crazy thing he wants? He's destroying our capital and Congress is allowing it.
