The National Rifle Association has repeatedly thumbed its nose at calls for stronger gun safety measures after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Current NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre shocked many by attacking these efforts and calling instead for armed guards in every school. Still, on Wednesday, past NRA President Marion Hammer took the lobbying organizations pro-gun radicalism to new heights.
On NRAs news show, Hammer warned that gun owners are in for a massive fight like weve probably never seen before, in which the government will take guns away in order to control the masses.
When asked about proposals to ban certain kinds of assault weapons, Hammer also charged that guns are suffering discrimination similar to racism against people of color:
HAMMER: Banning people and things because of the way they look because of the way they look, but here they are again. The color of a gun, the way it looks. Its just bad politics.

(43,238 posts)She was the driving force behind Florida's Stand Your Ground law.
And she's batshit crazy as well. She hates the Florida Scrub Jay.
No, seriously. She hates the Florida Scrub Jay:

In 1999, more than 10,000 schoolchildren signed a petition to change the state bird to the Florida scrub jay. Supporters boasted about how it will eat peanuts right out of a persons hand.
Hammer was unmoved. Begging for food isnt sweet, she testified in a committee hearing. Its lazy, and its a welfare mentality. Scrub jays had lots of other bad habits that disqualified them to represent Florida, she contended. They eat the eggs of other birds, she told lawmakers. Thats robbery and murder.
