Reporters presumably want to keep their jobs. Despite what may be their own personal feelings, they're not going to buck their corporate overlords for (the very real) fear of losing their paychecks.

Accept this and your anger might subside.

Haberman so seriously discussing revelations that trump ignores whatever sage advice he’s given. I’m shocked. SHOCKED!

But Swan did just refuse to make an acknowledgement of possession of tapes. Hmmmmm.
