Especially the ones who power on despite bouts of cancer, back surgery, and many other ills of old age. One of my favorites is a tiny woman who works tirelessly to fight corporations who want every drop of our precious fossil ground water in this desert area.

People who walk the walk. People who help others every chance they get. People who see themselves as lucky if they are fortunate in life. People who fight the good fight to lift others. Good eggs no matter who they are. People who come from people.

I'm in awe of their patience and strength. When I see one dimensional negativity here, I think: Don't be the enemy they need. Don't trust a bad guide book.

"Life keeps going because, until things touch you personally, nothing seems to matter. That's why volunteering matters so much to me personally. ... Those are the people of whom I am in awe; there are hundreds of thousands of them, millions of them, and they get barely any mention or credit. They are the people who are doing good in the world. ... So don't despair. Don't turn away. Don't give in to cynicism. You can make a difference. You can do something. No matter how small, your actions tell the world there are good people who want to see an end to suffering. It's never too early or too late to change the recipe and fix our broken world."

Jose Andres, "Change the Recipe"
