Senate votes to halt Iran war despite Trump's push for peace deal

The Senate on Tuesday voted to cut off the U.S. military campaign against Iran, handing a fresh loss to President Donald Trump despite his attempts to convince lawmakers and the public that a deal to end the war is at hand.

Four Republicans broke ranks to help approve a resolution to block further military action unless it is green-lighted by Congress.

The war powers measure is largely symbolic — the resolution cleared Tuesday doesn’t go to the president to sign or veto. But the bipartisan 50-48 vote is a damaging milestone for the Trump administration: Both the Senate and House have now weighed in against the Middle East conflict that’s stretched on for more than 100 days. The same measure passed the House in early June after months of close calls.

so the DEM governor can't appoint a replacement? GOP seems fine with taxation without representation if a DEM is the decider of replacements?

Republican Representative Tom Kean is expected to address the mystery illness that has kept him from Capitol Hill for the past three months when he returns to Congress at the end of June.

The 57-year-old New Jersey Republican has been entirely absent from Washington since March 5, missing more than 130 roll-call votes. His sudden disappearance from public view has fueled intense speculation. It also occurs at a time when the Republican Party is navigating a razor-thin majority in the House and bracing for a fierce midterm election cycle.

In a post on X, earlier this month, Kean said he was planning to transition from "virtual work to in person work with in a matter of weeks."

"At that time I will be completely transparent as to the nature of my medical condition," he added.

Just like Mitch stalled and stalled, keeping Obama from appointing a Supreme Court Justice 'close to an election' and then later let Trump appoint one really close to an election, one wonders if they don't want a DEM governor to appoint an interim senator.

Vulnerable repukes will use it as a "see, I was against it" BS campaign line. If they refuse to authorize additional monies to the DOD without public testimony about the reasons it's needed and whom exactly blew all that cash they got last summer in front of Congress would make more sense if they are serious. They'll smile, kiss a baby, and give the MIC all the cash they want. All of this shit, Iran, Venezula, Gaza, Ballroom, reflecting pool is theater to keep everyone's eyes away from the Treasury which is being thoroughly emptied. A janitor will be mopping the floor by the end of the year where all of our money once was. The largest heist in history times 1,000.

As a concurrent resolution (as opposed to a joint resolution) - it carries no force and is not presented to the president for signature or veto.
