For a 6-3 majority (Thomas, Alito & Gorsuch, dissenting), Chief Justice Roberts *strikes down* President Trump's executive order purporting to limit which individuals born in the United States would automatically be US citizens; preserves status quo:
Justice Kavanaugh dissented from the majority's constitutional holding, so it's 5-4 on that. But he agreed that the executive order violates the existing federal *statutes,* so the underlying judgment is 6-3.

(24,612 posts)It's literally written in plain English in the Constitution. This isn't some interpretation of related text to some issue, it is as plain as could be,
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
The fact we have fascists on the SCOTUS who read that and are willing to pretend it doesn't mean what it says is just disgusting.

(24,612 posts)Basically he voted that Trump's executive order is not valid, but that Congress could tweak birthright citizenship if they wanted. My guess it's a way of putting his hand out signaling he can be bought since the SCOTUS ruled bribery is fine.
It's disgraceful that anyone can read the actual text of the Constitution and say it doesn't say what it clearly says.

Look behind the curtain. Undoing T's tariffs was hailed as a defeat and victory, but who made out? All the big corps who got refunds from the taxpayers. And the gougers who blamed prices on tariffs.
