Joshua Boston, Former Marine, Pens Response To Dianne Feinstein Gun Control Bill: 'I Am Not Your Servant'

The Huffington Post | By Cavan Sieczkowski Posted: 01/04/2013 12:59 pm EST | Updated: 01/04/2013 7:57 pm EST

A United States Marine veteran has penned a response to California Sen. Dianne Feinstein's gun control proposal, saying the government has no right to take away his weapon: "I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve."

Former U.S. Marines Cpl. Joshua Boston wrote a letter to Feinstein regarding her assault weapons ban, a proposal announced in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 20 children, aged 6 and 7, dead.

The letter written by Boston, who was deployed to Afghanistan in 2004, was first posted on CNN's iReport on Dec. 27.

Via CNN iReport:
"I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government's right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma'am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one."

This is unserviceman-like. I recall when a marine called Sen. Boxer a Ma'am, she felt it was offensive and told him to call her Senator. He apologized and did just that. They are taught to respect government officials, this is a prime example of disrespect!

Personally I think he could get away with most of his letter while in the service except possibly for the bit about refusing to register if it were to become law.

I can see both sides here.

You don't need to share the personal views of an employer. Just saying.

But I don't see the point in your anger towards him. Just a kid who likes his guns. That doesn't mean he's not a good person.

As a Democrat and supporter of most of the gun reforms coming to vote, we still need to consider that the Constitution was a great framework for a great nation and remember that a lot of incredibly intelligent people helped create it.

And as far as Diane Feinstein.
She's not my favorite. She really has been in politics too long.
Wha'ts she got now, like $800,000,000 dollars or something like that. Wow.

I'm sure she is with "We The People".

She's a Senator...not some woman! Would he have said, "Some man" if a male Senator had introduced that bill and would he have been so snotty about it? I doubt it!

Unfortunately, you are grossly mistaken.

Ms. Feinstein is FAR too wealthy to have any idea what most people's lives are like.

She has every modern luxury money can buy, never has to worry about the things "common" folk have to worry about and never will.

A modern day Marie Antoinette in the flesh.

To me, this is NOT the type of representation that We The People need.

military. I can't really explain my position except to say that having been around military all my life, he just doesn't fit the mold. Not because of what he said, just something about the way he said it. Incredibly undisciplined and vitriolic. Can't confirm, but getting out after 8 yrs. at the rank of Corporal is a red flag. I think this will come back to haunt the NRA and all his supporters.

As to his letter
Boston's Claim: his "right" to bear arms is guaranteed by constitution, and is not Feinstein's domain.
What rational people know: the "right" to bear arms is granted by the 2nd AMENDMENT to the const., not the original document. And how do amendments become law, that's right, proposed by Congress and ratified by the states. I'm certain that is the exact definition of domain.

So Joshua Boston Cpl. USMC

Many of my fellow Democrats are showing very little tolerance for other views.

In fact, a lot of you sound like spoiled brats with ego problems.

To nurture a civil society, we must listen to the concerns of ALL constituents.

Posting all these rude comments really makes us look bad.

A Democracy is comprised of a plethora of viewpoints.
When we begin to feel that ours and ours alone is the only one of value, we begin to migrate AWAY from a Democracy.

He did his time. He owes Boxer nothing, if anything she owes him. If anything we all owe him.

More people should spend time in the military so they learn the concept of respect.

This "former Marine" swore to defend the constitution while he was enlisted, now he's just a civilian exercising his First Amendment right. I think we should "respect" his rights.
