Guy Finds Chicken Kidney in His KFC
Chain apologizes for 'unsightly' mix-up
(Newser) In case you needed a reason to cut down on fast food: A 19-year-old in the UK found what appeared to be a chicken brain in a piece of fried chicken, the Sun reports. But, hey, it's not so bad, because experts later determined it was probably just a kidney. Ibrahim Langoo complained to the company and, of course, took pictures of the unimaginable grossness, leading KFC to apologize for the "unsightly" 3-inch organ, explain it "was not removed in the preparation process," and offer him ... vouchers for free meals. But Langoo, not surprisingly, says he never wants to eat there again.

(114,615 posts)although most people tend to pull them out because they are ugly suckers. In fact, if you've ever broken down a whole chicken, sometimes you find part of one next to the backbone, where it wasn't removed completely.
I can't believe this happened in the UK, where they eat beef, lamb and pork kidneys for breakfast.

(37,051 posts)...and only let the odd kidney slip through, that's pretty remarkable. It's harmless-- actually as nutritious as any other organ meat-- if a little unattractive. Finding one in a chicken meal should only be news because of its rarity, though. I think the guy is WAY too squeamish!

(22,336 posts)because I've cooked chickens and they're inside chickens. It isn't so gross, at least I don't see why it's more icky than animal flesh.
It seems odd to me it would be so horrible to find a chicken part still in the chicken. It isn't like it's poisonous or foreign. It's just proof it used to be a living creature.

(9,131 posts)Finding a chicken innard in the chicken at least shows it's REAL FOOD, for heaven's sake!
What a wimp!

Apparently they still do since they provide nutritional info for gizzards: http://fast-food-nutrition.findthebest.com/l/858/KFC-KFC-Gizzards
And they still have livers!

Why not kidneys? If properly prepared, I've heard they can be good.

(21,691 posts)I've never had a chicken kidney, but love their other tasty blood filters. Not so much the gizzards and hearts, though - too chewy.

(26,314 posts)Don't want it, chuck it. I don't eat organs and I eat chicken so I don't eat the organs from the chicken. Hell, I love thighs, it goes with the territory.
I can't believe they apologized, that is good customer relations.

(11,366 posts)I can't say it's a brain, but it's NOT a kidney UNLESS the bird was extremely diseased, which is worse.
P.S. As I suspected, it IS a chicken kidney (diseased)... with moderate edema and congestion with urate retention.
Sent the pic to my bil on FB who has a doctorate in agriculture, working primarily with poultry. Basically, it's a diseased chicken kidney.

(34,914 posts)It was battered and deep-fried in a pressure cooker. Of course, it's appearance is going to change. Half the thing was cooked away.

(7,429 posts)I feed them Chicken and Beef Hearts for dinner. They love them. We even give them kidneys and liver from time to time. I used to eat Chicken Livers all the time when I was a kid. Can't stand the taste of them now, but it is food of some sort.
