the entire country did not lose it's S*it, but a whole lot of people lost their jobs because of the poor management of the company.

OP makes is that there was all that attention about corporate malfeasance and nothing about the extinction of yet another important component of the biosphere. Without a healthy biosphere, jobs and twinkies will cease to have meaning.

It's the biosphere, folks. The planet will survive, it doesn't require air, water and food... all things that exist upon it do.

I believe it explains things all rather well. I got the point the OP posting of the FB page was attempting to make, unfortunate in that it was a very, very, very poor comparison with which to attempt to make said point.

Yes, it is the biosphere, but one needs to have their waterfowl in linear sequence when attempting to raise the alarm and make reasonable comparisons. The 18,000 people who worked for Wonder/Hostess lost their means of putting food on their table and a roof over their heads because they were repeatedly screwed by greedy management, that too has a ripple through the economy and is of exceptional importance to those people and their families. Making light of the media attention given to that story and it's effects is in my opinion mean spirited and completely unnecessary.

and I still think the OP is appropriate and made a fair comparison... just my opinion, of course.

We must agree to disagree. A post questioning the lack of media attention about an animal that reportedly went extinct in the 1930's and mockingly comparing it to the media attention of the loss of 18000 jobs in the then current year, is in my opinion beyond absurd, but believe as you wish.

Wildlife determined that it had actually been extinct since the '30s. But because there's still some debate on how all regional variants of cougars are related, it's a little more accurate to say that the eastern cougar was extirpated. From what I understand. I could be wrong.

You picked an odd story to use an an example of media "distraction". There are plenty of actual examples, many involving a Kardashian or two.

the stuff they were making was some of the most horrendous shit one could put in or near their face and it says something really ugly about our society. I'm sorry the workers were treated so badly and that they lost their jobs and all that but to be honest, I don't feel bad that the product line is gone. I noticed that it was quickly replaced by similar shit with a different name in the stores I go to for anything.
