NRA To Talk To Biden, But Not About Gun Control
EVAN MCMORRIS-SANTORO JANUARY 10, 2013, 9:59 AM
The Great Conversation about gun violence in America takes a big step Thursday as representatives of the gun rights community, including the National Rifle Association, sit down with Vice President Biden and his gun violence task force.
But before the meeting began, the NRA made it clear one subject is off limits: new gun laws. In keeping with the organizations hardline stance following the Newtown shooting, the NRA signaled Thursday morning that while any subject is on the table when it comes to preventing gun deaths, new gun regulations are a non-starter.
The NRA is hearing not just from Beltway elites and the chattering class, but real Americans all over the country that are hoping the NRA is not going to compromise on any of the principles of the Second Amendment, nor are we going to support banning guns, an NRA official told Politico. But were willing to listen.
The official told Politico We are willing to talk to policymakers about any reasonable proposals and plans. However it seems clear from the NRAs messaging before Thursdays meeting that reasonable does not include limits on magazine capacity, semi-automatic weapons or other gun regulations reportedly under consideration by Bidens task force and other politicians working on gun violence after Newtown. On Meet The Press Dec. 23, NRA vice president Wayne LaPierre rejected those ideas as well as the very concept of the so-called gun show loophole.

(86,612 posts)arms crossed, pouting and taking names of politicians they think they can intimidate, and then yell whenever they think it will be disruptive. Maybe they'll end up being asked to leave. It would be interesting if they were given some sort of "in kind" treatment. When Obama first got into office and he had that meeting with the W Street banksters, he had no snacks or treats to offer them, only water! Something like that.

(86,612 posts)decide to stop buying memberships and the pariah actually goes away, maybe we can get rid of GN for good! He needs to be cast into oblivion along with the mouthpiece that we are exposed to on too many occasions, well actually there's two mouthpieces that need to disappear from public realm, one has a guitar and c'boy hat. The world would certainly have a better chance at civility if those three went away.

I'm afraid we will just have to move without them.

(4,423 posts)membership cancellations. I keep hearing about "gun owners, NRA members" who are receptive to these measures. I hope these will ALL see what this org has become and actively cancel their memberships in protest. I hope they FAR OUTNUMBER all of these "new memberships" the NRA is claiming.
Assholes!

well, they don't have to talk about them, but they will have to obey them.
