Limbaugh: the planet hasn't been warming, because it was 27 degrees in San Diego this morning

I quote the dumbass' comment he made today in his show:

""Twenty-seven degrees outside San Diego right now, 27 degrees, and they're talking about global warming".

Someone tell Limbaugh that San Diego is not the globe and a temperature one day in a city is not a long-term trend.

As I cheerfully point out to any of those Cold in San Diago, Hot in Alaska types, what GW is about is introducing more energy nto the system in quite erratic ways, with the result that the variance increases much more dramatically than the mean. Crazy weather is exactly what's predicted by the theory, and every such example is in fact a further validation of GW theory. If they don't know what statistical variance is, I politely suggest that they get themselves an education before presuming to flaunt their ignorant opinions in public.

The record high temperature at the National Weather Service office in San Diego of 111 °F (44 °C) was on September 26, 1963. The record low temperature was 25 °F (−4 °C) on January 7, 1913.[3] The record high temperature was tied only once and happened on September 27, 2010, 47 years and two days after the set record. Several temperatures near San Diego broke their all-time records that day.[4]

The lowest maximum in fact, hasn't been less than 50 since 1949. The lowest maximum since then has been 50.

In fact, not only has the high temperature never been 30 (at least not the history of weather records...), a low temperature of 30 hasn't occurred since 1949.

You were wrong there too.

As for the high temperature in San Diego, I didn't argue with you. 104 is on the high side for San Diego, but has been exceeded at least a few times.

44F this morning, compared to a mean minimum of 49F.

tomorrow's forecasted 36F is higher than the record low for that date and the day after, so not unprecedented.

meanwhile, on average, the trend nationwide has been for higher minimum temperatures over the long term.

And furthermore, this trend is especially pronounced in Phoenix itself, where the average minimums have increased from the 30's on January nights 50 years ago to the mid 40's now and from the 70's on July nights 50 years ago the middle 80's now.

Incredible warming there.

Four days of cold weather will not offset the larger trend.

His listenership numbers come from his press agent.

Radio listener numbers by show are not calculated by any organization, just gross listener numbers for radio as a whole (Arbitron).

his listeners are the dumbest, stupidest, vilest human beings and he makes a living entertaining them. Think about it... what kind of person could possibly do something like that, I'm sure history has a list of folks like him. But it's the fools who follow his shit... they are some really damaged human beings... not just dumb, but angry, hateful fucks.

...because part of what I said was more out of anger and frustration. It's that line we draw for ourselves... funny thing is, conservatives tend to draw that line way too soon. I just don't have much more patience nor understanding for them. For a drunk, homeless person, drug addict... I do. Once it's separated from politics, and is connected to real life issues, then I feel for folks, and yes, many of those who follow this Rush's hate-filled propaganda do suffer from the above, but they made a decision to lash out.

You are not alone... and I'm just venting. My words should be as meaningful to you as graffiti on a wall.

And we have not only the "sunny" beach city of San Diego where but for a one or two days a year, it doesn't get below 40 degrees in the city itself, but 20 miles from the ocean, we have mountains between 3 and 5K feet, where it sometimes snows during the winter and can get pretty damn cold. Especially when we get a winter storm sweeping down from the Pacific Northwest.

Kinda like comparing the weather in upstate NY with New York City.

But Rush is a complete moron.....what else have we come to expect from him?

Indeed, any one single weather event, of any extreme, is not necessarily indicative of a long-term trend, whether it was the back-to-back heatwaves of 2011 & 2012, Hurricane Sandy(also from last year), the cold wave of '96, or the Miss. River Flood of '93, etc.

(What I can say, though, is that increasing amounts of research is showing evidence that we may actually seeing quite a bit of global "weirding".....I forget who coined the term, though)

"Catastrophic" Heat Wave Burning Up Australia

Sydney—Australia's most populated city—is now waking up to what may be its hottest day on record in 150 years, up to 110 degrees, creating conditions that the premier of that state, Barry O'Farrell, said could be "the worst fire danger day this state has ever faced." The threat is being met with "catastrophic" fire warnings that fires have the potential to cause significant loss of life and destroy many homes. Residents are being told to leave early from high-risk areas.

According to updates from the Sydney Morning Herald, more than 100 130 fires were burning across that state. Twenty-one Forty were uncontained.
