Chamber of Commerce head says debt is greatest threat, cuts to social programs needed

The chief executive of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Thursday said the “exploding national debt” is the greatest threat to the U.S. economy.

U.S. Chamber chief Tom Donohue called for Washington to reach a broad deal to rein in deficits in the coming months, while warning that entitlement spending was unsustainable.

Donohue said that restraining entitlement spending and overhauling the tax code would be part of the Chamber's broader push to expand economic growth..The focus on debt and deficits signals something of a shift for the Chamber, which supported President Obama’s stimulus package and has long made job growth a signature issue. But Donohue said Thursday that putting the U.S. on firmer fiscal ground would play a big role in allowing the private sector to do its part to help spur growth.

The Chamber president said that Medicare, Medicaid and other U.S. entitlement programs were “unsustainable” and had come to dominate American spending. Still, Donohue said that changes to entitlement programs could be phased in over “a number of years.”

He also said that the tax code was long overdue for a revamp, and that the right kind of reform could make the U.S. more competitive around the globe and “turbocharge” economic growth.

Gee, I wonder what kind of changes to the tax code he wants.

These people should be abandoned to wolves at birth.

Cause He is so gonna bitch slap them into reality when they die thinking they own part of those gold and pearly gates, only to find themselves locked out and a sign pointing to the down elevator on it.

Would so love to see them when they learn that the life they led was completely opposite of the life their savior meant for them. Hands them their guns back and point to the shaft to hell where they can all shoot it out.

But for that you need a benevolent yet vengeful god.

I would rather see them get it in this life when I can enjoy it so much sooner.

Was this all a dream of some equality? Does the human existence have to fall into levels where some suffer just because of their class and others are proud peacocks because they were wise enough to be born rich?

as I'm sure if there is a heaven and hell, I'll be getting the "come downstairs" notice too. lol. I'll spend all eternity ducking wild bullets from republicants.

I would love to see them all face jail. I would love to see every rich mother fucker who uses his money to harm others, politically, environmentally or otherwise, lose every cent. I want them begging for food stamps. That is before they do life in prison. By life in prison I mean 10 years with the general population, then put to death in the most violent way allowable. But I want them to live long enough to suffer.

So, since I doubt I'm getting that wish, I end up hoping for the smiteful God to start the smitedown. I don't think I'm going to get that wish either.

I hate to have to hope for vigilante style justice, but they aren't leaving us with much else. lol

Create a list of Emergency (war) Supplementals since 2002 along with the date, amount, and political party.

I'll bet you could find a few trillion of those 16 trillion dollars we owe on our National Debt.

9. There are three main sources of our debt
Sun Jan 13, 2013, 11:57 PM
Jan 2013

Source 1: holding wars without raising taxes to pay for them.

Source 2: developing weapons we don't need, that don't work, and will be outdated if they're ever fielded.

Source 3: a tax code that cuts taxes on business so they'll be inspired to take some socially beneficial action, rather than cutting their taxes if they perform that action.

Since RWNJs always confuse micro- and macroeconomics, let's do that too: if you want to use $5 bills to motivate your second grader to get As on his report card, would you get more As if you told Johnny, "I will give you $5 for each A on your report card" or "here's $30, I want you to get straight As this quarter"? The latter is our current tax code - we cut taxes so businesses will create jobs, not if they create them. Since they're getting the tax cut whether they create jobs or not, why should they bother with creating any?

It is because the war on the middle class is destroying the tax base. It's like quitting your job and having no money to pay the bills and after you lose your cable, then electricity, then water, then get evicted, standing on the street corner and saying "if only i hadn't bought that big mac i could have paid my rent".

14. meanwhile, at the local level, chamber of congress takes $$ from city tax payers to support them
Mon Jan 14, 2013, 02:06 PM

city tax payers contribute to chamber of commerce through their city council so that businesses can advertise their business on the tax payer dollar.

Since they are a conservative organization that takes tax payer money for their own selfish needs, they can shut the fuck up.
