I'll bet the NRA held a conference call, had the blast faxes going out non-stop in anticipation of the President's announcement. The mission here is damage control and to try apply political pressure and count on their "friends" to stand up. For many rushpublicans this mean thousands of dollars in campaign contributions on the line (not counting funding of any primary challenger)...the NRA cracks the whip and the rushpublicans fall in line fast.
