(34,857 posts)I know how it is to deal with someone who suffers from PTSD. My dad was a Vietnam veteran and suffered from it as well. One day, depressed about how crippled he had become and how badly his memory was going, he pulled out his rifle and put it under his chin. My mom happened to walk in on him right as he was doing it and wrestled the gun from him. Eventually, he was sent to the hospital and stayed there until they found it fit for him to return home.
My mom made sure to get all the guns out of the house.
I was lucky, he didn't actually go through with it ... but almost did. I'm so sorry your sister felt this was her best out.
You're in my prayers.
And yes, I am so sick of these mother fuckin' guns.

(26,877 posts)A little short of 20 years ago, my Mother's little brother took his life in the same manner. It was life-changing for everyone.
Please be well and be aware of your grief. Deal with it in the most constructive ways possible. I am so sorry!!!

(10,237 posts)She used lots of pills and lote of booze. Please accept my sympathy, I know what this loss is like. I still think of her and miss her every day.
I'm sick of the guns, too, and I used to be a gun owner (but NEVER in the NRA!).
PEACE to your family and RIP to your sister.

(113,957 posts)I wish I had something meaningful and comforting to say. But, know that I stand with you in fighting back against this incredibly unacceptable prioritization of guns over lives.
I know you had good memories in better times. Please try to hold on to those. I hope your sister is at peace.

(1,922 posts)But, being a life-long gun owner, I didn't want my last memory to be a gun shot.
I was going to monoxide my way out.
Fortunately, a miraculous, serendipitous series of events turned me around.
I hope your sister finds herself in a better place, babsbunny.

(25,415 posts)I was so sad and upset. His girlfriend had recently died from a brain aneurysm. He also had recently come back from serving in Afganistan. He lived with father and used one of his guns to kill himself. He must have been very depressed. I am not eager to be around guns these days either.

(15,686 posts)My heart aches for you - and for your sister. The pain she must have been dealing with - I can only imagine. Depression is painful. So are traumatic memories. Some people don't understand that.
I'm just so sorry. I have a sister and can not fathom losing her that way. My thoughts are, and will be, with you.
