Lance Armstrong - man of his times

Hey, I've been reading all the criticism of Armstrong and how everyone feels cheated and deceived. Well, I contend he is a man of his times.

In my career, I saw businesses go from wanting to nuture employees, to wanting to outsource them for executive profit. I saw the CEO's of IBM go from benevolent managers to lying, cheating, mean SOB's. Wall Street has grown into a culture of expecting cheating, the new cultural norm. Why not the outrage for Goldman Sachs, Enron, and others, like for Armstrong?

Just putting it in perspective.

That this is just more sleight of hand bullshit and distraction......

Hey!!....Look over there, while we steal this over here!!!

It seems every damn time the national awareness starts to focus on a meaningful issue, something else of huge import occurs and drains concentration....Brittany's having another baby.....The Kardashians farted.....Snooki broke a nail.....

This guy, in a way, is a good representative of America today, and the win at all costs mentality so pervasive in our "winner take all" culture. JUST WIN BABY! If you cheat, who cares, as long as you WIN!

I'd hate to be starting out a career now. It seems that to get ahead you almost have to fall into the zeitgeist of lying and cheating that's prevalent in our country now. The most glaring example, along with Armstrong, is the rigging of elections by Rove and the repugs. They are now even trying to pass laws in some states as to how electoral votes are apportioned so that repugs will get votes in blue states.

The lifecycle of corporations is fairly predictable, and the reason Wall Street seems to be getting worse is that we know more about what's going on.

That, and the fact that Lance was caught, are heartening developments.
