Out Of Curiosity... Who Would YOU Prefer As Obama's General Election Opponent, Romney Or Gingrich ?

It's obviously not decided yet, and hell... the way this thing is unfolding, there could be a brokered convention, still... as it stands now, who would you pick as Obama's opponent?

I used to think Gingrich... but now I'm thinking Romney... He IS the 1% !!!

in Republicans. Their hate and violence is not what I want to experience for months on end. He and they could actually be dangerous to segments of OUR coalition. Especially since Paul's supporters will go to Newt.

My Focus on the Family sister can't stand Romney but she likes the other 3. That tells me a lot.

Romney may be conservative and a bit of a jerkwad, but he has some intelligence and isn't batshit insane.

It is ALWAYS possible that some horrible turn of events will result in the republican nominee winning. (How many of us thought in 2000 that there was no friggin' way Americans would vote for that idiot frat boy?) So it is preferable to have a nominee that the nation might be able to survive.

The base hated Romney but would vote for *anyone* to "remove Obama from the White House".

They have already made up their minds to cast their votes against Obama - I don't think it matters that much to them who the nominee turns out to be.

Mitt is just another centrist politician looking to be a bigger shot. Gingrich is conservative who is being anointed the flag bearer of the right.

IMO Obama will wax the floor with Gingrich. It will be a bit more of a race with Mitt...but not much more.

He literally has run around saying he's unemployed, yet his unemployed butt had money hidden in the Caymen Islands and a Swiss Bank... and he made more money on investments in one day than the average working American makes in 1 year, yet he pays a lower tax rate than those very hard working Americans.

Newt just get's the raging people going.. and people are mad.. and they may take that anger out on the President just because he's been in office. Newt is dirty and uses anger to embolden people and not necessarily in the right manner or what is in their best interest....

Gingrich is just an asshole and what damage can be done has been done. But as history has shown - assholes can be elected. The voters are only just beginning to learn about Romney and not only does his history as a corporate raider make him instantly unlikeable a great public discussion of mormon theology will reveal his religious beliefs to be as fucking crazy as those of Tom Cruise.

A Romney nomination and loss would cause he Tea Party Republicans to become even more radical. It could fracture the party or, at a minimum, keep it divided and losing at all levels for a long time. I don't want the Tea Party out of the Republican system any time soon.

A Gingrich nomination would give Obama a much more certain and satisfying victory. The Tea Party Republicans would be forced to pipe down and crawl back into their box. That would have the unfortunate effect of letting Republicans who don't drool or wear Revolutionary War garb run the show again. We would definitely miss them in 2014.

But four more years of Obama and the sustained success that Democratic leadership brings the country would give the voters a solid contrast with the Bush/Republican years. I guess I will be happy with either Gingrich or Romney.

they keep slinging the ugly truth at each other.

The more drawn-out the Primary season, the more dirt gets exposed. They are digging each other's politcial graves.

The Big Shot Party has pulled out all the stops to push Romney. Gingrich has broken his chains & is a Frankenstein's Monster. I just caught some hick radio preacher on a fundie station, and he started with a stinging rebuke of Newt the "liberal, the globalist" followed by a pitch for Romney as God's chosen candidate (or smething like that).

Gingrich is a very dangerous man and, to boot, he is clever and can be quite devious.

If Gingrich should get the nod and run against Obama, I wouldn't put anything past him. He is the originator of the potent talking point meme and could get the public to believe anything he says (except for those of us who know better).

Even if he is not successful at winning the public over with his heavy-handed maledictions campaign, he wouldn't hesitate for a moment to rig the election to whatever extent he has the capabilities (and co-conspirators).

I don't trust the man any further than I could throw him. He is both intelligent and sinister; a very potent combination for evildoing!

Just beware if Gingrich goes up against Obama. He could be our worst nightmare, especially if he is allowed to step foot into the White House as prez.
