I thought it was an amazing speech, and historically very important, Krauthammer began. This this was really Obama unbound. And I think whats most interesting is that Obama basically is declaring the end of Reaganism in this speech.
During his 1981 inaugural speech, President Ronald Reagan famously declared that government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem. Todays inaugural address was a rebuke to that entire idea, Krauthammer said. This speech today was an ode to big government. It was a hymn to big government.

(253 posts)The facts are that the Reagan trickle down, no regulation, massive military deficit spending government and econnomy has been a documented failure. Yet they refuse to recognize what is obvious. They know that their beliefs are true and pure.

(8,225 posts)That some things in fact require collective effort is far from a "hymn to big government". However I will grant that it may be the beginning of the end of Reaganism. It is a shame it took this long.

I hope that piece of filth Krauthammer is right for once, and this does indeed mark the end of this blight.

(31,706 posts)...when dubya waged his war for profit and began the process of alienating those under the age of 30...then helping tank the economy in '07. It showed a generation how selfish, short-sighted and greedy rushpublicans are and are the cause of many of this country's problems.
Sourkrautkammer lives in the bubble that burst long ago and still deifies a Raygun that never existed and the one who did supported failed policies that Democrats have had to fix and clean up. Here's hoping we're at the start of a new Progressive era...this country needs it bad!!!!

(36,649 posts)In the 1980 campaign, Reagan/Bush ran on the idea that a $2 trillion budget with a $20 billion deficit was "too big". In 1993, they left us with a 6 trillion budget and a $220 billion deficit.
"Big Govt" never left, it just stopped helping people.

(9,841 posts)They obsess over corruption and projects that have failed, and declare that nothing good can come from our collective action, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Except for war, of course. So in addition to being unduly pessimistic, they are also hypocrites.
