the spittle and drool coming out of their mouths with the stupidity of their words. Who do they think they impress when they scorn women and their health and workplace issues, and use code words to demean the "others?"
IT'S OVER. SERIOUSLY, IT IS OVER.
The Obama presidency has set a new benchmark for how America views the office and it's occupant. He is young, smart and young. He is not an old wrinkled white man who waited in line for his "turn" at running for the presidency.
I am saying all of this for one reason, and one reason only.
The next president will be Hillary (another woman) or a male 55 years or younger.
If the Dem's run an old white guy, or the GOP does, then they will lose.
Why? Because in 2016, today's 14 year old, will be voting. In 2016, the white population of voters will be overtaken by a more diverse population of voters and will not be comprised of high numbers of "old white men."
Sadly, I do not see an open window for Joe Biden. It is has closed. This is not a commentary on if and why any old white man could or would be qualified.
Rather, it is my view that the office of the presidency will have been recast in the conscious mind of voters after 8 years of Obama and his family occupying the WH. America will be ready and perhaps even eager, to elect a woman.

(135,425 posts)And I couldn't help but notice that all of the Republicans were well-larded, looked like they were hung over, and had that unfocused, raddled and hard look of too much boozing. They all looked sweaty and greasy, like they'd just finished a steak dinner and ate the fat off the sides, and were having trouble with their digestions that a couple of scotches didn't cure.

(47,209 posts)are that stupid? Hillary is getting to be an old lady- and superficial morons- the voters you seem to be pandering to, are not very kind to older women either.

(11,417 posts)I think you need to stop the racist name calling. I am an old white man and do not support right wing policies on any way.
You are adding to the DU myth
of old white men being the conservative enemy.

I was hopping for more reasoned input, rather than hurling accusations at me.
Sort of like what Obama said in his speech about name calling not a substitute for debate.
A thank you to the 4 people were able to read my words and comprehend where I was going with my OP.

Does that apply to you also since you claim to be a 69 year old white person.
You seem to have no idea of the racism and ageism you have spewed in this post:
Quote you:

(11,181 posts)"hopping for more reasoned input" - I assume you meant hoping, but maybe not. Anyway, a more reasoned OP might have resulted in more positive input.
Your OP sounds ageist and racist and sexist. A study of history may well be in order.

(18,775 posts)I'd like to see political representation more in line with the country's demographics - so I can kind of understand the 'old white guy' slams. But in reality there are plenty of people over 55, or male, or caucasian, here on DU and they aren't the problem.
Do you consider that posting shit like this is hurtful to people here? Do you care?

(1,362 posts)These racist posts are so insulting and there's one almost every day. America wants leadership and doesn't care about the age, race, sex or religion of the leaders.
Get a clue.

(53,410 posts)Both Hillary and Biden are The Best. If they run they should pick younger people as VPs. Not younger white people, but younger people. And they should fill their cabinet with a very strong cross section of the social demographics in our country.
I don't see younger people wanting to pick someone who isn't a known quantity.

(101,311 posts)You clearly have a talent for aggravating people, but not for getting any kind of inclusive message across. You also seem blind to the problems in your writing (such as repeatedly talking about 'white' as a problem, but being unable to realise you've done this, even when explicitly challenged on it).

(2,117 posts)I kind of understand your point, and for most of the "old white men", it's true. But it's not because they are "old white men", it's because of how they individually act towards others. Joe Biden is warm-hearted and strikes you as someone who would be genuinely interested in having a conversation with you, no matter what background you come from. Now, the stereotype for "old white men" politicians is something like Mitch McConnell, who strikes me as someone who would feel insulted and call security if anyone outside of his circle of cronies walked into his office.
It's not about age, race, gender, or anything, it's about the person's personality. Ronald Reagan was considered to be a successful political figure to the right in part because he had a grandfatherly feel to many. A lot of people trusted him and still believe to this day he could do no wrong, even though his policies are in part what led to the recent financial troubles. Looking at the state of the American electorate, an "old white man" who possesses charisma similar to Reagan's could definitely be elected. Mitt Romney was pretty old for a Presidential candidate and he still came within 5 points of winning the election, despite the fact that he made blunder after blunder in his campaign and he had the charisma of a robot.

The demise of the white male politician is greatly exaggerated.
Wait until 2010 happens again in 2014. The percentage will go up.

(21,786 posts)Reagan and Bush Sr were older than the average for presidents; Carter was 52, Nixon was 55, Kennedy 43, FDR was 50. Out of 44 presidents 26 were aged 55 or younger at inauguration. Of the 16 presidents in the past century, six were older than 55 at inauguration (Wilson, who was 55 when elected, his birthday was in December; Truman and Ford, who succeeded after death or resignation; Nixon, who was 55 when elected and had a birthday just before the inauguration; Reagan; and Bush I).
