http://www.ctpost.com/local/article/Newtown-dad-to-lawmakers-Change-gun-laws-4228992.php<snip>
A false fire alarm, 45-minute waits to get into the Capitol complex, even the heckling of a bereaved parent of a Newtown shooting victim marked Monday's day-long legislative hearing on gun control.
"The Second Amendment!" was shouted by several gun enthusiasts in the meeting room as Neil Heslin, holding a photo of his 6-year-old son, Jesse Lewis, asked why Bushmaster assault-style weapons are allowed to be sold in the state.
"There are a lot of things that should be changed to prevent what happened," said Heslin, who grew up using guns and seemed undisturbed by the interruption of his testimony.
"That wasn't just a killing, it was a massacre," said Heslin, who recalled dropping off his son at Sandy Hook Elementary School shortly before Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six adults. "I just hope some good can come out of this."
Another father of a 6-year-old boy murdered in the shootings fought back tears as he told lawmakers to make any changes in gun laws simple.
"I don't believe it's so complex," said Mark Mattioli, whose son, James, was among the first-graders slaughtered on Dec.14.

We need to bring back public shaming rituals for these freaks. Throw them in the stocks and let their victims lob rotten tomatoes at them.

They claim they have Second Amendment rights but they don't believe in the First Amendment. And their days of bullying need to come to an end to solve the problems this nation and the world are facing and they aren't helping a bit.

Many gun rights advocates, wearing yellow stickers that read: "Another Responsible Gun Owner," were among the estimated 2,000 people at the hearing. ..."The Second Amendment does not protect our right to hunt deer," said Andrew Hesse of Middletown. "It protects our right to self-preservation and preservation of our family. The right to bear arms." Elizabeth Drysdale, a single mother from Waterbury, spoke of three recent incidents that caused her to fear for her safety. She said she should be able to choose the size of magazine and type of firearm to defend herself. "Don't my children and I deserve your support and consideration to be safe," she asked lawmakers. Judy Aron of West Hartford said bills such as those requiring gun owners to have liability insurance and ammunition taxes only harm lawful gun owners.

(21,977 posts)BUT, and it's a big "but," it depends on how you define hi-cap. I think a 15 round clip for a 9mm is fine. 30, not so much. Drums, gone. Setting it at 5 or 6 is arbitrary and, in my opinion, unreasonable.

But you see me as a gang member. That's the problem with your side. You insult those who would actually cooperate with you, and in so doing, you alienate them. Inother words, you see me as a gang member, and that makes me see you as a gun grabber.

Public perception is everything. And the majority who do not own a gun think of gun owners as an overrepresented bunch of psychopaths at this point. And by not putting enough distance between jackasses like these in this story and actual responsible gun owners, it's the fault of every responsible gun owner, too.
Bake

I live somewhere in the middle.
It bothers me when people make jokes here about rural people like my extended family, many own rifles to protect their property and livestock. We have to have a sane discussion without shouting about automatic weapons and large mags. i do not agree we need them but I want to listen to reasonable ideas.
I do not see you as the kind of gun owner who would have yelled at that poor father, those types of people do not help your cause in the least and I think most gun owners understand that.

I heard Mark Mattioli, and yes he broke up over his 6 year old son, but the writer of this article, didn't just take him out of context, he lied and made stuff up. One of the most interesting parts of Mattioli's speech was that it is the "lack civility in our country" which is causing the problems. He didn't blame guns. He actually mocked the gun laws in Chicago and 500 dead kids last year. A problem can never be solved when you start out with fiction about the issues.

(18,470 posts)...when George Bush was wiping is ASS with the Constitution? Didn't hear much from these dumbass fucksticks then about Constitutional rights. As a matter of fact they were busy calling anyone who stood up for the Constitution - especially the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 8th Amendments - a bunch of godless commie traitors. So these douchesticks can take their holier than thou attitudes and shove 'em up their asses as far as I'm concerned.

(978 posts)No one should have any problem with me going in to such a meeting and yelling "FIRE!!!"
If the gun loons are allowed to buy up assault weapons and thousands of rounds of ammo because they are paranoid. I could be just a paranoid and yell "FIRE!!!" in a public place.
I could say. "I thought I smelled smoke and yelled FIRE just to be on the safe side."
No one should have a problem with that.
Next time I see a guy wandering around with AR-15 in JC Penny there's no reason I can express my same freedoms and yell out warnings that some maniac is walking around with a gun.
It goes both ways if the gun maniacs are yelling things like jerks.
They disrupt us. We can disrupt them.

His right to own a fucking assault weapon is more sacred than a 6-year-old's right to life?
He should be ashamed of himself, but it's obvious he's incapable.

I just won't sit still for the state to confiscate my private property.
Better for the state to concentrate on confiscating the liberty of the criminally insane than to reach out and torture folks like me who never did anything wrong with weapons.
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,498 posts)Hell, even if you currently and legally own a AR-15, they won't even take that. The proposed law is prospective.
But you go on deluding yourself about it.

Perhaps I am a "crank old puss" when it comes to yahoos who see a headline about 27 people murdered to death, and their first reaction is, "But don't take my semi-auto rifle!" You got me. Guilty as charged.

(44,498 posts)Based on a single errant piece of reporting the day after the shooting. And totally ignoring the actual investigation which showed that the AR-15 was used to commit all the shootings.

Yes yes - it wasn't an AR-15 - it was an XM-15-E2S...big fucking difference there huh, sporto?
In the mean time, why don't you explain to him how it wasn't REALLY an AR or an assault weapon that killed his son, just so you can hope to always be able to fondle yours.

You, despite being pointed to videos that show exactly that, still refuse to even acknowledge that reality and instead hijack this OP to spread vile gun nut propaganda. It is sick and you should be ashamed.
