(17,528 posts)What a bunch of hypocritical Christians!

(50 posts)these people understand that according to the very bible they thump, just saying they love Jesus and worshiping every Sunday (or all week, for that matter), all while failing to practice what Jesus actually preached, ain't gonna get 'em a front row seat in heaven.

If you want information on Christians you don't ask those politically opposed to them.
The info you get back will be not only uninformed but usually outright lies.

(7,886 posts)They don't pay taxes and often help on a very conditional basis. Yes, there are some churches that don't operate this way, and they always get trotted out when the x-ians get butthurt when they get criticized, but it's true. Also, the Catholic church harbors and protects many, many pedophiles and says it's god's will that these children are molested, or something.
Jesus said some wonderful things, I wish more of his followers listened to them.
Plus this is a reflection of what "christian Facebookers" are saying, and from my friend's list, I can assure you this is accurate.

(176 posts)The OP was talking about "conservative" Christians, or Right-Wing Nut Jobs, not mainstream Christians. When someone tells me they are a Christian, I need more info. Christian is just an umbrella term for a multitude of Jesus-based religions.

(6,257 posts)Christianity has splintered so much that it really is not a unified religion anymore. I once heard someone describe Hinduism not as a single religion, but rather a family of religions with some common beliefs. I think the same applies to Christianity.

(11,304 posts)taught to help the poor. The priests marched with MLK to help poor get afforable housing, jobs and assistance for those in need. The nuns are the only ones that seem to be doing the right things for the poor and middle class. Organized church are losing more people all the time. I think people are more spiritual today.

(3,190 posts)Every major (and minor, for that matter) world religion has fractured and splintered many ways over time. Since religion is a human creation and involves dogmatic beliefs, it's just a matter of time before this happens over and over again. It's just human nature, both for the "leader" who's ego and ambition creates the faction in an effort to gain power over people, and the "follower" who needs something to grasp onto and who's ego creates the belief that what they believe is superior to others. For both, it feeds the insatiable ego.

(3,021 posts)I'm not a Christian, myself, but some of my Facebook friends are. Fortunately, they are of the Liberal Christian type. Y'know...the ones who actually try very hard to be like Rabbi Jesus. I think that's an admirable goal, and they let me walk the path of Dharma in my search for the Buddha. As I said: I'm fortunate in my friends.

Many religious businesses here in the south. With employee cars out in the parking lot wearing Obama bumper stickers. Mine is one of them.
Knowing this and now reading your post - I side with 'all religious people' and would choose to avoid you.

(1,079 posts)but I did unfriend my husband's cousin when he started posting about having to pray to Jesus to keep Obama from taking his assault rifles away.
I enjoy my relationship with God (at least the one I think we have, could be my imagination) however at no point did I think he cares who owns rifles, wins the lottery, the Superbowl or elections. If you made that a sticker I would put it on my fridge.

(6,336 posts)My "Christian friends" love to make contests to see who loves Jesus more and to rout out the non-believers. I NEVER answer these even though I consider myself a follower of Christ's teachings. (I don't consider myself a "Christian" since the right wing turned Christianity into a farce.)
