Walmart is funding Rahm's public hearings on closing Chicago schools: $500 million.

http://dianeravitch.net/2013/01/31/walton-funds-school-closing-hearing-in-chicago/

District officials have said they don’t want to link the volatile issue of school closings with the equally volatile issue of charter school openings. But a major pro-charter foundation is providing financial backing for the current crop of school closing meetings taking place around the city this month.

The district is now engaged in a community engagement process intended to provide feedback to the district as it contemplates what schools to close. That process is being underwritten by the Walton Family Foundation (a foundation run by the founders of Wal-Mart). The Walton Foundation has fueled the expansion of charter schools across the country and, in January, announced that CPS was the largest recipient of charter school grants in the country.

The scuttlebutt on the net says the hearings are 'managed' by dividing the audience into small groups & paying someone to take their statments. which go into the round file.

Well, there goes Chicago. The father of Disaster Capitalism, Milton Freidman, would be so proud. That's it. Who can come up with another...more appropriate... name for the USA? You know...they make a big deal about all these immigrants coming into our country illegally? What I want to know is how many Americans are LEAVING America illegally or legally?

Having already shutdown Main Street, China Inc. -- with the help of slimy pols, like Rahm -- is now completing its work of having us pay to enslave ourselves. Nice work, Rahm.

Our Mal-Wart has always tried to maintain a tie with the school where I teach, giving gift cards for our good behavior drawings, new bikes for those who win the commended performance on the standardized test contest. I have always been suspicious of this.

Walmart certainly has the resources to move into the privatized education sector in a big way, if they were allowed to do so.

The fact that Obama selected him as his COS, has made me question his judgment from day one.

Rahm's the guy who railroaded progressives out of primaries and recruited rich Republicans to run as Democrats because it was an easier pathway to election.

Fuck him.

Even when he installed himself in the mayor's office...I don't know whatever happened to those 3-4 Chicago-area DUers (won't name names) who used to worship the ground Rahm walked on...
