The gentleman in question has a TV. They have not cut power due to the kid. If you have TV crews filming, insta info for the bad guy.

This is why you will have paper reporting and only paper, or net reporting. You can bet your sweet potatoes local reporters are listening to the scanner and not sharing.

We had a recent swat incident that got ugly. It did not make the nooz....beyond police activity at so and so until it went code four...aka over.

Corrected already.

In my list of things to get is an actual scanner. The apps are great at home, in the field, not so much.

are purposely not putting too much attention on it as a way not to give the killer any info.

I can tell you, we would be listening to scanner, but put only what cops put out. This includes photos that could give anything away. So a close up, with the sky behind a public info officer would be it. If I need to work the angle or crop the photo, so be it.

in your supposition. Couple that with the fact that authorities are being completely silent--i haven't seen any print coverage with detail--and there is simply nothing to report... save what is being reported "the hostage situation continues."

They are being officially told. Even though likely they know more.

Everybody is concerned for the kid.

Ironically I have been on both sides, as a paramedic I got a major media outlet to play nice in exchange for the international exclusive in a hostage situation. (Yup, speak English, so got to play PIO) As a reporter I know better than put more details than officially necessary when you got this kind of a situation.

and this is from Friday here.

Police step up presence in Alabama hostage standoff.

Police have stepped up their presence near an underground bunker where an Alabama man is holding a five-year-old boy hostage.

A team in military-style uniforms, many with weapons, moved into a staging area nearby on early Friday.

Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65, is accused of boarding a school bus and shooting the driver before taking the boy.

Officials are talking to Mr Dykes and delivering medication to the boy through a 4in (10cm) ventilation pipe.
