(111,359 posts)since so many areas of the state have been magnets for retirees looking for a relatively balmy climate (although the altitude gives us real winters) and a low cost of living. Heating, cooling and electricity are all cheap out here, real estate is relatively cheap (unless you want Santa Fe or Taos) and the arid air seems to be a great life preserver, the average longevity out here being 3 years or so more than the red states.
Best of all, the northern 2/3 of the state is heavily Democratic.

Charlotte was #2, and many were in TX. Seattle and Phoenix were the only none Southern areas.
These lists are totally subjective.
