(28,369 posts)The furthest away anyone is ever "from" is Philly, and they're always a "special guest"....it ain't news if it doesn't happen in the tri-state area, NY, NJ, CT.
Unless there is a mass shooting....then they do the "could it happen here?" Routine...

(154,021 posts)I cover news in my East County. Right now you require a 4x4 to get through the snow. In the summer you require a 4x4 to get through improved county roads.
We joke here (and it applies) that coverage is indirectly proportional to ease of access.

At least to so cal natives. But it was kind of funny to see him struggle with the pronunciation. God help him if this ends in La Hambra or El Camino Real.
True story, we needed lamps when we first got here. The lamp stores were on Morena Blvd. well, me speaking Spanish will pronounce it Mo-re-na. Locals, Muu-ri-na. No wonder it took us a while.

(8,556 posts)Chris Christie, Cory Booker, and Mike Bloomberg are 'national figures.' It's got a lot to do with the fact that our national media is primarily NY-based.
That's not the only thing going on here. NY is the largest metro area in the country and the financial center, etc. It matters in its own right. But there's something to the idea that the local media bias bleeds into national coverage.
