Mindy McCready singer of "Guys Do it All the Time" shoots and kills herself

Mindy McCready, the 37-year-old country singer from Ft. Myers, Florida, is dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Her death comes only three weeks after the apparent suicide of David Wilson, her record producer boyfriend and father of her infant boy.

With a history of alcohol and substance dependence issues, McCready was ordered to check into a rehabilitation clinic ten days ago due to family concerns following Wilson’s death. Billy Dukes at A Taste of Country reported that she was released a few days later for outpatient treatment but her two boys remained in foster care. In addition to nine-month-old Zayne, McCready has a six-year-old son, Zander, from her marriage to Billy McKnight.

but her troubles are well known. I sometime follow sports and came across her story because of a one time affair with the Major League pitcher Roger Clemens.

She always struck me as someone who had a bit of a covet the struggle attitude. I work with someone like that who has to have never ending drama and turmoil in her life to be happy. The first sign of calm waters and she becomes uneasy.

Of course, none of us knew her. She did shoot her dog before she shot herself which is very sad. No reason to bring the poor dog into her never ending shit show.

Tragic and, frankly, stupid.

It's a permanent solution to temporary problems that now has left her sons without a mother.

That's an tired worn cliche'. You personally have no idea how temporary or permanent her problems were.

at least judging by your attitude.

Contrary to libertarian propaganda that suicide is an act of courage, it is a selfish act.

She didn't hurt herself; she hurt her kids.

Who was far from selfish. Suicide is not a "selfish" act. It's an act of desperation. Educate yourself. www.afsp.org is a good place to start.

I don't remember many of her songs, but "Guys do it all the time" was really good in the early 90's. I believe she was on celebrity rehap about the same time that Mike Starr was. Isn't he also gone as well?

the celeb rehab she was on was at least 3 years ago. The family and friends should have recognized a long time ago that there were many problems.

She was clearly distraught enough to lose custody of her sons, and they let her keep a gun? This is crazy!!! Temporary (?) depression combined with access to firearms is a horrible combination! I'm really disgusted! I feel so sorry for those boys.

I also believe that someone with suicidal tendencies shouldn't have been released to "outpatient" treatment, probably more focused on substance abuse than mental health because if you are a substance abuser that's all you will be in the eyes of professionals.

and right now due process means judcial adjudication. It needs to be changed but it is a hyper charged issue involving what civil rights can be removed from mentally ill people and how it is done. NY has implemented a database for people with mental.illness who are potentially violent - as you can imagine it is controversial.

You seem to be the one who knew she had a gun. Did you know where she was hiding it too?? If only you had given them this information they could have stopped this. (sarcasm)

I'm sure she just waved it around in court and gave the police a list of all of her guns and weapons and they said, "yeah, she'll probably be ok." (more sarcasm)

Seriously though, someone who wants to kill themselves, is going to kill themselves no matter if they have access to a gun or not. There are plenty of other ways to do it.
