WTF could this Administration not trot out a very good Lawyer to explain this to the people, instead of letting many of us go into absolute panic mode. Our conditioning has come from 8 years of Bush BS, granted. But it would have been very easy to get someone that knows this new law, to explain it to the people.
I am trusting this guy, I guess because he has a link to Ed Shultz. He used to stand in for Shultz in 2006 on his radio show.
That is all.

(34,179 posts)But next week, next month, next year when you've decided you've had enough and take up the Occupy banner? Yeah, then this provision could be effecting you, personally.

(3,491 posts)The question now is, what do we do about it? It has passed both houses, and Obama is about to sign it, so what do we do.

(18,402 posts)People don't even listen to these explanations when they're stated in a forum like a national speech or interview or the State of the Union. They seem to get their marching orders on the subject third-hand from sources scouring the fine print to find a tricky way to negatively interpret what might possibly, in some alternate universe or under conditions that have never occurred, conceivably, maybe happen. Only they can't. But their minions don't really care. They've got their hook.
That is all.

(48,962 posts)"This bill also contains misguided provisions that in the name of fighting terrorism essentially authorize the indefinite imprisonment of American citizens without charges. While we must aggressively pursue international terrorists and all of those who would do us harm, we must do it in a way that protects the Constitution and the civil liberties which make us proud to be Americans."
He explained that very nicely.

(48,962 posts)the ones who pay attention to policy, before an election. God forbid Jeb Bush or any of his ilk have this power in 2016. That is unforgivable.

(16,327 posts)do not like this bill. As it stands it STILL allows indefinite detention of non-US citizens, something anyone who believes in Justice should be 100% against.
Fuck the NDAA bill, and shame on Obama when he signs the crap.

(3,491 posts)were not up for grabs with this bill. To say I am not happy that the Senate passed it with an over whelming majority is absolutely a travisty.
