A government warning was recently issued that anyone traveling in icy or blizzard conditions should take:
- Shovel, blankets or sleeping bag
- Extra clothing including scarf, hat and gloves
- 24 hours supply of food and drink
- De-icer
- 5 lbs of rock salt
- flashlight with spare batteries
- Road flares and reflective triangles
- Tow rope
- 5 gallon gas can
- First aid kit
- Jumper cables
I felt like a complete idiot on the bus this morning.

(44,397 posts)He was demonstrating what to do if car broke down on seldom traveled mountain road during winter. He survived in the car for about a week, then got moving. He needed the snow shoes to walk to safety.
Duct tape would have helped.

(15,686 posts)WD40, Velcro and Windex. Don't ask. Future ex always yells for one of these (including the duct tape, of course) whenever something is broken or not working properly.

(14,162 posts)Vinegar! Vinegar does everything... from insect repellant, making dishwasher dishes spot free, to making cloths soft used in the wash, cleaning battery acid, making a battery with your kid, cleans copper, brass, nickel, a spot remover... let alone the Rostbratten.

(40,416 posts)Also, a blanket and a pair of down mittens. Here in the rural woods of Michigan, one can run off a narrow two lane easily and nobody will likely drive by for a while.
One comes prepared. Just in case...

(63,221 posts)I am really getting sick of it. Especially since my building seems to have a problem keeping the power on. (Yes, I was completely without power and water during the last big storm). I am soooooo tired of winter. I cannot wait until this is over. I feel so isolated and depressed.
