Ron Kronenberger, Ohio landlord, whipped tenant for falling behind on rent, police say

(CBS/AP) WAYNESVILLE, Ohio - An Ohio landlord is accused of whipping a tenant with a belt on his bare buttocks for falling behind on his rent.

Police in the village of Waynesville say 53-year-old Ron Kronenberger is charged with assault for the Jan. 22 encounter in his office. He was due in court Thursday in Warren County.

Police say Kronenberger told the 29-year-old tenant that if he was going to act like a child, he would treat him like one. He then allegedly hit him four times with a belt, leaving small marks.

Police say the tenant told them he was scared and just wanted to get it over with.

The Dayton Daily News reports Kronenberger is a former chamber of commerce president. His home phone wasn't taking messages Thursday.

As others have speculated, I imagine the timeline of this incident included a demand to drop the drawers.

This is the 1 on 1 version of Bushco opening a can of whupass on Iraq. I'm certainly not supporting defending or rationalizing the behavior with this comparison but at some point, the persistence of watching the country starts to shift the populations mindset.

It screws up the collective moral compass and it eventually starts showing its ugliness in ways like this. Many comment above have rightly said this, in principle, is nothing new. Absolutely right. What's new about it, however, is that the landlord is probably surprised that his F'ed up assertion of power over his tenant is seen as a bad thing.

I'm sure chit like this is happening in a lot of situations and there will be more. Bushco taught many people that extreme over reaction and preemptive strikes are all ok. In that world, it's the great American patriots that seem to believe it is their responsibility to teach us lessons we don't need over wrongs we have not committed by asserting power they should not have.

It's going to take a long time to rebuild big parts of our moral compass.
