(3,557 posts)especially couples with the USMC sticker. A lot of people automatically assume that everyone in the military is a righty.
People, when they learn that I'm a combat vet, mistakenly assume I'm a righty a lot. If anything, my combat experience pushed me hard to the left with my politics and made me a much more tolerant and loving person. War can be a very humanizing experience when you realize that the people who you are fighting against aren't that different from you.
Granted, I don't believe the same hardline Islamist fundamental positions as some of these guys, but most of the guys that I fought and detained explained that they were fighting me out of a sense of duty they felt they had towards their communities and families. They viewed me as an occupier and were doing what was necessary to get me out. That is an opinion and a view that I can respect and, if I were in their shoes, I could see myself doing the same as them. As soon as you realize that you don't hate the people you are fighting against, it gets way more difficult to kill them.
Anyways, as soon as I get some extra money I want to get a "Combat Infantryman" license plate for my blue volksagon beetle. It'll look nice right next to the flowers my wife has all over the back of the car and the "proud to be a vegetarian" sticker my wife put on there too.

(3,576 posts)My husband is former Navy officer and quite a few of his fellow officers voted Gore in 2000. Even his Base Commander told him he voted for Gore. Many of those guys got out but there are a couple still in. I see them on Facebook - still very strong Democrats!

I'm gonna use this the next time I'm forced to hang out with my Fox watching BIL.

(9,922 posts)In light of the fact that Fox News actually went to court for a ruling to uphold the right of public broadcasters to order their reporting staff to knowingly lie to the public. To appease Monsanto (and keep Monsanto's advertising bucks flowing in) a Fox News station ordered two reporters to water down a report they had prepared on the human and animal health problems associated with Monsanto's Posilac, the artificial, genetically engineered bovine growth hormone. When the reporters objected and were consequently fired, they had a judgement for unfair dismissal overturned after Fox News appealed and the appeal court ruled there were no laws on the books compelling Fox News (or any public broadcaster) not to knowingly lie to its audience.

(13,462 posts)The more you watch, the less you know. That's what my bumper sticker says and a lady behind me left her car when we were stopped at a red light one day to knock on my window and tell me it just made her day. And that's in Lexington, KY; maybe some people are waking up.
