So, after 3 years, *I* just got a job. But there's a catch. . .

Some of you may remember a couple of weeks back I posted that my husband got a job after being unemployed for 3-1/2 years:

Well, a couple of years ago I filled out an application and took a test for the Census Bureau (I worked for them in 2009 and 2010). Since it had been so long ago I had pretty much forgotten about it then, yesterday, I get a call and had an online interview. Today they called me to tell me I was hired! Yay! But it's a federal job and tomorrow starts the sequester! Boo!

No idea if this will affect the job or not but it just goes to show that the cosmos can have a sick sense of humor.

I think you may be ok, I'm sure they would have post-poned call returns. JaneyVee Feb 2013 #3

Otherwise that would just be cruel to do to someone.

They do surveys in between census years for various governmental departments. This one is for HUD (or whatever the current acronym is). I'll be setting up appointments and conducting surveys on a wide variety of questions. It's only part-time (15-30 hours a week) and it's a temp position (6 months) but since both of us have been unemployed for so long, I'll take it.

It's been a HELLUVA year, though! First, my husband FINALLY gets hired after being able to get nothing but contract work here and there. Then another company he's been doing occasional contract work for called him and wants to talk to him about employment (wouldn't you know it?). Then, I've been taking care of my 91-year-old aunt for a number of years and come to find out, she has a policy that will pay me for all the care I've been giving her so now I'm actually going to get back pay for that. THEN the census called. It's like we're riding a wave here. I can't believe all of this and all in the last 2-1/2 weeks. We've been under this hellish recession for so long and now all of a sudden the dark cloud is gone. POOF! Weird.
